I have been shooting the BT (30.06 Springfield) and plan to use it for deer. Should I use the AB for elk, or stick with the BT? Also, will interchanging cause me to have to resight. Or if I use the same charge and seating depth, can I expect the same ballistics from the BT and AB?

I would recommend the AB for elk. It is a tougher bullet that will hold together on elk. These are tough animals, and their bones can be quite hard. The extra insurance provided by the AB will justify any additional costs for you. Charge will be similar and seating depth, as explained in my response to another post, will likely be restricted for you by magazine dimensions. You will need to verify the point of impact as they are not necessarily identical.

Accubonds all the way. The performance on big game is incredible. Its all I use in my 300WM, 300WSM and 270WSM rifles and probably my 338-06AI. I now almost prefer hunting with my 270WSM and 140gr AccuBond reloads right now. Dropped my cow elk this past season with it.....see posting -33 and cow elk.

Use the BST's on coyotes/wolves and smaller deer, but for elk/moose/bear/deer- Accubonds.

165 or 180gr Accubonds would be great in your 30-06, maybe leaning towards the 165gr for more velocity.

I think you should specify weight in your question. In my opinion a 180 grain balistic tip from an 06 is a very good choice.
The acubond is too, so there is no confusion. I am not saying the balistic tip is better.
I loaded 180 grain balistic tips for One of my hunting buddies shootin a 300 win in a BAR.
I loaded them for deer hunting, and of course they were great,
But He took about 4 rosevelt elk with that same load.
When he ran out I told him the acubond was better. He said every elk he shot with that balistic tip droped within a few feet and would not switch.
This guy has shot more elk than he can count with evrything from a 30/30 to an 06 and a .264 Win. As well as the 300.
So, if I was shooting deer with a 180 grain balistic tip, I would stay with it for elk,
But if you prefer the 165s as I do in non magnums. I would go with the Acubond too.

I would recommend the AB, just in case you get a strange angle shot...

Welcome to the forum.
With equal weights, the AB/BT may or may not shoot to the exact zero.
I would also suggest you use the AB and don't look back. Its a great all around bullet.

Thanks for all the suggestions...one more question...I am currently using IMR 4831. I have read that this powder is best with heavier bullets (180 gr or larger). If I go to the AB 165, should I change powder or will the IMR 4831 work OK?

IMR4831 will work just fine. You have it on hand, so there is no reason not to use it.
