Accubond jump?

I found loads using Accubonds in different make rifles(one Remington, two Winchester) in different calibers (270WSM, 30-06, 300 Win Mag)
They all ended up shooting best .075" off the rifling.
Has anyone else noticed Accubonds like a jump or was it just a strange coincident in my rifles?

Randy,

I've noted this on a few rifles, but then, this is true across quite a spectrum of lead core bullets. It is really kind of a neat problem to have, as it ensures that you don't have to worry about maxing out on the OAL against the magazine.

I have only worked up one load using AB's. I am shooting the 130 AB in my 264 Win mag 10 thousands off at 3350 fps out of a 27 3/4" Shilen 9 twist barrel. It is a tack driver and a laser beam.

Is .075 a longer jump than normal? Im getting ready to start tuning some 140 AB loads and am trying to decide how far off the lands to start. .075 seems like more of a hurdle than a jump

Monolithic bullets in my rifles are routinely set at 0.100 inches off the lands. Seventy-five thousandths is really not all that far. I believe the longest jump to the lands I ever had to work with was 0.250 inches off the lands. It was a tack driver, believe it or not.

My 270 gives excellent accuracy at .068 off the lands with 140 accubonds and .088 off the lands with 130 accubonds. .075 your getting does not seem strange to me. The first three 180 accubonds reloads from my 300 mag went dang near in the same hole. They were only .015 off the lands. Can,t see anything strange about that either.

For me it seems farther.
.015" off the rifling has pretty much been the norm for me the last 30+ years in loading.

It's a common myth that you must seat the bullet close to or into the lands to get any accuracy. It doesn't meant that accuracy can't be found there, it's just not necessary.

I have a few loads with Accubonds that range from .045" to .092" fro" the lands. My most recent 300 SAUM is shooting the 180 Hornady BTSP very well and it is .084" off the lands. I can't wait to get an E-Tip load worked up.

The best advice I can give regarding handloading is to listen to your rifle. It will tell what it likes. Sometimes you do have to work at interpreting the the range results though, but that's part of the fun.
