Does anyone have an accurate .223 wssm load for 60g Nosler Partitions? I tried some at the range the other day and it looked more like a shot gun pattern than anything else. I have a factory Browning ABolt with a 1:10 twist 22" barrel. Thanks in advance!

I have been running RL15 and the 60gr PT's (22-250) in a 1-12 twist Savage and they were pretty accurate, at least MOA or so. Not sure what works best in that short 223 though. What powder are you running. Might have to ramp them up some. I have a bunch loaded from the Savage in order to try out the new TC 22-250. Should make a coyote killer a long way out. Scotty

My first attempt was with H4895. I tried seating them pretty long maybe I will set them deeper along the lines of what Hodgdons website recomends. I know that made a big difference when I was playing with my .257 weatherby. That gun likes the loads very deep. I was just hoping (wishing really) that one of the members here had a favorite recipe that they wanted to share. I get good accuracy with factory loaded ammo though.

That 223WSSM is a new one around here. Pretty cool cartridge though. Hope you find what your looking for. Scotty

I have conducted tests on a 223 WSSM some time back. However, these tests were conducted with 75 grain Hornady A-Max bullets. The rifle was wonderfully accurate, consistently shooting 0.25 inch groups. I used IMR 4350 and H1000 powders. They delivered excellent velocities and gratifying accuracy. I would think that powders in this burning range would work equally well with the 60 grain Partition. H1000 may prove the slowest powder advisable for this particular bullet, as it will certainly fill the case.

I've been using Ramshot Hunter with decent results out of my 243 WSSM 24" bbl'd Oly Arms AR-15 upper. With 52.5 grs of Hunter, I'm shooting .25" at 100 yards with the 6mm 62gr Barnes Varmint Grenades at 3975 FPS. That's the only load I tried with Hunter. It's shooting minute of Chuck head so I didn't bother working anything else up. Go to Barne's web site and look at their loading data for some ideas.

Dr. Mike, what kind of rifle was used to shoot those A max bullets? Do you think my factory 22" 1:10 twist will stabilize a heavier bullet?

bbearhntr,

That was a Model 70 off-the shelf rifle. I can't say definitively, but I would believe it was a 1:10 twist.
