I say keep the brake. Adding two pounds is a lot and adding to the butt stock would really mess up the balance.

As for adding weight and effecting balance, I once added some weight to the butt of a Savage heavy barrel 22lr to see how it would react to bench shooting. Even at that it didn't feel right, butt heavy as suspected. For hunting rifle, I wouldn't recommend it.

That's an additional 2 or 3 pounds you'll need to carry around, don't forget. Is there a particular reason you don't want the comp?

I would look towards a better recoil pad or a slip over design before adding weight.

I would not recommend adding that much weight . there was a gizmo for in the butt stock for helping recoil . I "THINK " it was called something like a " Mercury recoil reducer " . I'm not sure of the weight , effectiveness , or price . I'll do a little searching around , and see if I can find it .
I found it . I know nothing about these , I only know they are available .

Jim beat me to it.
Also adding a Pachmyer Decelerator recoil pad and Mag Na Porting the barrel should tone down the felt recoil to a more comfortable level for you.
