I went out this morning with my Deer Managment Permit (doe) tag and the 450 Marlin. It was cold at 10 degrees F when I got up at 3:30 AM. It was even colder at 5 degrees F when I started getting dressed. I added another syntheic mid layer and headed out for the new stand that Rol_P helped me put up this fall. Thank you Rol_P!
It was a long walk up the hill but it was pretty with the fresh snow. I enjoyed cutting the fresh deer tracks. I found a fresh, large, single deer bed within sight of my stand. I must have put the deer up when I walked in.
My hunt only lasted 20 minutes once I was settled into the stand. A big long doe walked across the big opening to the east and stopped broadside right in the center of the opening. The 450 Marlin spoke. It said, "Dead doe". And the hunt was over.
The deer was to the left and behind the pine tree stump. About 85 yards. Of course, the trailer blind had been moved.
What a fantastic year I have had deer hunting!
