Now I an fairly certain that just about 100% of the folks here are like me in that they would never shoot another persons reloads unless the reloader is very well known to them and they trust them.

A friend of mine recently bought about 100 rounds of 300 WinMag at a yard sale from the supposed reloader. He did not know the gent, but the price was right.

He got to thinking and decided that he could afford to waste any powder, so he started pulling the bullets.

His first pull told him all he needed to know.

The powder was a mixture of stick, ball and flake.

Nope....my keyboard did not stutter...... he was unlloading a diaster waiting to happen.

I told him to pop the primers also, cause heaven knows what primers he was using.

Granted, he got the brass and bullets at a very reasonable price..... but if had not been a tad curious, he would probably find himself without a rifle and body parts.

Caution is the By-Word......

That is chilling to think about what could have happened. I, like you, would have to know the one who worked up the load. I would be putting my life in his hands, and I had better know that he knows what he is about. I don't mind dying, but I don't want it to be because of stupidity.

Can't believe how stupid some guys can be, I bet your friend sure is happy he never shot them.

Thats crazy, lucky he pulled the bullets. My dad just bought a 223 (last spring) it came with 50 rds of handloads. Situation is a bit different cause he bought it off of a buddy of his and had been to the range shooting with him previously. I was a little apprehensive about shooting these loads but chrono'd them right of the hop. and they are fairly tame for the 223. not sure of the exact charge weight yet but will be pulling a bullets on a few and weighing them, i do know its varget for the powder.

When I was stationed in Germany I was talking to a shooter in the Vogelweh Gun range after he shot his string. He was shooting a 30-06 that he was loading with a buddy. His buddy was showing him the ropes since this guy was a beginner. He proceeded to tell me that he was shooting 180 gr bullets. When I asked what the load was he told me it was 58 grains of Red dot!

I did a double take and immediately figured it out. I told him he was shooting 58 grains of Reloder 22 which is also a Hercules powder (of yesteryear) and it does in fact come in a red container resembling Red dot.

He said nope it is 58 grains of red dot! Now I am not one for government intervention but thank God the German government had these guys (and me also) go through a reloading class before we can buy powder legally! Still did not work for some!

That would have been one loud explosion had he pulled the trigger! Wow! And WOW again!

That is how I knew it was reloder 22 and not Red dot

I had someone tell me they were loading TAC in a 338 Lapua and getting 3000 fps with a 250 gr bullet. My better judgement says otherwise. Just a scary thought in my mind.

I do not even send my reloads with a rifle that I sell. If somebody want my tested loads, I will give them to them in writing but not the reloads.

IMO I would never shoot a reload that anyong gave me. I feel the most comfortable when I am there reloading with so I can oversee the process. I load for myself and for my dads 30-06 win mod 70 which is the same as mine. I have taken both of the rifles to the range and ran the ladders thru them both to find the same load which is used in both rifles. I am not comfortable loading up some ammo for anyone who was not there. Safety first is the best reloading advise I was ever given when I started.
