Any military rifle shooters out there?

Oh it is....especially far out. You'd dig the 03's and trapdoors for their rear sights. Hard to use in bad light (still beyond me how guys hit anything with them in combat conditions), but the Buffington rear sight is pretty adjustable for elevation and windage. It was designed to dope for range and wind as conditions dictate.

The 1917's rear sight, not so much (part of why that rifle didn't remain in wide use after WWI, despite a much more visible sighting system and many other ergonomic changes that many thought superior to the 1903).
