Any plans for a new rifle in 2025?

Well Oregons controversial measure 114 was ruled constitutional by the states appeals court after a two year battle. What really pisses me off is the measure passed at 50.7 percent of the votes cast. Of registered republicans at the time, only 46 percent of them voted. Any way, I digress. The measure limits magazines to 10 rounds, requires enhanced background checks, removes the no return info on background loophole, and requires you take a training class and pay for your permit once all the above has been completed. The measure requires the local sheriffs office to facilitate with the OSP all of this. Of course it’s unfunded, the battle over this has been going on for two years, it is now due to take effect in less than a month and the nice Italian girl called and told me custom built side x side will be shipped in about 4 weeks. If the state Supreme Court does not take up the case and put a hold on its provisions, my shotgun will arrive about a week after all these restrictions are in place.
I called the sheriff, asked had they made any preparations for this, could I get on the list for the first class. Turns out his office has done nothing to prepare, I’m not surprised. “It’s unconstitutional anyway” he said. Ok, so let’s assume the State Supreme Court sides with the appelate court. There is no plan for that. Fingers crossed the State Supreme Court picks it up and issues a stay until they’ve entered a ruling. Sigh. There is no LEOSA exemption and several state reps actually specifically fought against that. I guess they don’t like retired cops.

In light of the above I’m probably going to become an Arizona resident. Need to resolve a coupe questions there, having an attorney for a brother helps with that.

Given I have a ton of 40 cal ammunition a Glock 27 and a Springfield XD just to shoot the stuff up, I’ve been looking for a 40 cal 1911. A chance search found a sig Max Michel I was able to negotiate on and trade off the xd. I’ll pick that up about a week before 114 could go into effect.
Catherine has reminded me I retired two years ago from guiding. It’s only March and I bought the CZ 22; a nice shotgun and now a nice 1911 all on left over tip money from guiding. The jar is empty. :)

I’ve got a standoff with rings and bases going on right now, but when it’s over I’ll be putting the first rounds through a Weatherby Vanguard Sporter in 270 Win. The DNZ rings and base should be here by end of week. Hopefully I’ll get to the range, if not the range then a farm I coyote hunt. According to my rangefinder I can stretch its legs out to 460 yards shooting from one wood line to the other. The gentleman that owns it dumped a few buckets of earth on each wood line with his excavator. Thankfully we both have a distain for coyotes.

I thought the CZ was from the "no chewing" jar 🤔 haha😄

I have a pocket full bonus money but still enough will power not to go the a local gun show over the weekend, figured i wouldn't find anything i needed but plenty i would want. Some new optics are tempting me.
Unrelated i think I have the wife on board for a new canoe 🙏

I’m a sixth generation Oregonian. My father’s side of the family, a French-Canadian trapper homesteaded near my hometown before Oregon was even a state. I have very deep roots here.

So believe me when I say that we have struggled with the idea of leaving our home behind to move to another state. But the incessantly liberal government that does not represent our way of life nor protect our rights has me at a loss. Stupid Portland/Metro. I swear they could mess up a free lunch.

Don, we too have been looking at other places to hang our hat. I would hate to see you move away but I TOTALLY understand.

I completely understand the frustration all of you are feeling.
Our family has been N.Y. residents since the very least the early 1800s.
I hear some say “just move”, but that is much easier said than done.
Also, the trouble is that the left strain of this virus travels too.
It would seem that once they come in and procreate, they then follow to the nearest free area and begin the destruction of that.
We have some of the most unconstitutional gun laws in the nation and I’m sure that Hoeghoul has some things up her sleeve that she’ll implement if anything gets over turned by the Supreme Court.

Dale eastern Oregon simply needs to vote. The math was clear, there were enough votes not cast, assuming all of the registered republicans voted against 114, in Baker, Union and Umatilla county to have beat this measure. That is three out of thirty counties that are historically red. Elections have consequences.
For those who don’t know Oregon the disconnect between the 6 counties in the willamette valley and the 30 remaining counties has been going on for ever. In the space of 20 miles when you cross the cascades you travel from lush rainforest environment to harsh high desert lava plateau country. A survey some years ago revealed that 80% of the people in Oregon had never been east of Bend. We have been overlooked and largely forgotten.
The state pulls some of its snow plows away from our area, because it snows routinely and takes them to Portland in case it snows once a year. We in Lagrande have the distinction of getting snow bound at least a dozen days a year as the most closed section of freeway in the country is our way in or out.
End of rant:) going to go run the dogs.
Dale, we’ll keep the house in Cove, but I’ll probably have to give up chukar hunting in hells canyon to hunt quail in Arizona. I just need clarity on some of the inconsistencies between Oregon and Arizona on residency. I guess I’ll be buying non resident elk tags as well.

I go back and forth on that, probably why she lowered the boom on me.

I’ve probably bought my last firearm. There is nothing I need and while my want list is longer than I am tall I’ve decided to spend my money going to South Africa and hunting.

Vince
well why didn't I think of that? Ya use the ones we have instead of building more and using them less? We all could probably have more fun, and not cost us more to do it!

Excellent idea, enjoy Vince, and think of the memories it would bring, over another session in the same places and shops doing the same thing. But this disease only gets worse the longer we go without treating it. Unfortunately most of use think treating it is to build another one,,,, any day now my new 338/06 AI should be ready, sadly I spent all my Africa money on building it,,, hope public land in Montana or Wyoming is good to me,,,,,

"Now, there is a custom LH Sako 591 in 257 Roberts with a beautiful custom stock made by a late, local stockmaker who did beautiful work, for sale that is teasing me badly..."

Well, I bit the bullet so to speak...put the deposit down over the weekend on the 257 Roberts...will complete payment this weekend, and post pics once I get it home.
Looking forward to having a LH bolt action in 257!
Will even go see the good Dr to see what he has left in the way of 257 Roberts components...looking at using the 115 gr BT in it as it has the 1:10 twist in its Shilen barrel.

Thanks!
Looking forward to it!
Another rifle with beautiful wood to be admired, carried, and hunted with. Although it may just be a fair weather hunter!

The original owner who had it built only hunted with it twice as he was afraid to scratch it...hope I do not suffer the same affliction, as I definitely plan to hunt with it.
