Anybody ever use Hawk bullets?

Hey FOTIS, I used the 400 grainers in my 45-70 Govt. lever action 1886 Browning, they shot great and dropped a bear behind the ear in its tracks! The bullet traveled down the spine and I found it sitting on the shoulder blade in perfect shape and doubled in diameter. But that was years ago!

If you want more penetration use LBT's hard cast lead bullets.... unreal penetration! If I remember correctly they went through 15 wet phone books, so I used dry phone books and they managed to go through 5 of them but there was almost nothing left of the bullet. Even their 300 gr. bullets in a 44 rem. mag. out of a Marlin guide gun went right through 5 wet phone books @ 25 yards.

The finally answered and they stated that the BC of their 300 gr spitzer in 416 is about .435. Thinking on it

FOTIS, they work well, expand well and create good wound channels. I never had one fail on game, they are deadly.

I have used the Hawk bullets in the .338 WM for elk hunting but never harvested any game while using them.

In flat point or older cartidges they fill a nitch. 300 sav, 35rem 348win etc. Other than the orifginal Rem 200gr CLRN the hawk 200gr .025" might be the next best bullet going for that cartridge. If it will break 2100fps it will be a dandy.

Are they easy to get accuracy with?

Depends on the caliber, you have to work with it sometimes and sometimes you don't depending on the caliber and cartridge, but they are not match bullets.

I've never killed game with them, have worked up loads with Hawks for 9.3x62, 375 H&H, .358W, 35 Whelen AI, 30-30 and .32 Win Special. In the latter two it was the .030 190/30-30 and .030/200 for the 32 spec. They all shot well, but they do "bump up" at firing so pressures have to be watched closely during workup ( we all do thay anyhow, right?) I then went to Woodleighs in the 358(225) and the Whelen (310) I just liked them better. Only game I killed with either of those was a pig with the 310. That sow and I were very impressed!
