I am about to pick up some reloader 17 for my dads 300 wsm and my 270 wsm, from the information I have gathered it should be pretty good for them, but I also have a 22-250, 243, 308, and 2 270's, would it possibly be good for either of these other cartridges? Generally speaking I shoot bullets on the heavier side if that helps, I know they say its about like 4350 but I have not loaded much 4350.

You can go to "alliantpowder.com" and look under the recipe section for RL 17. They include all the cartridges you list with the exception of the 22-250. No data given for the 22-250.

I just gave RL 17 a try in my own 300 WSM with increased velocity results.

big squeeze, how was accuracy and with what bullet? Im gonna be loading up some 180 gr. accubonds for his sub moa wetherby, im thinkin that it might be pretty good in our 243 also, it likes 4350 so we will see.

Anybody else given RL 17 a try in anything? just got back with 2 lbs of the stuff.

I tried some of it in my .260 thinking it may work fairly well.....unfortunately not with the 130gr A-bonds... velocity was down about 150fps too. I'll have to find my data, but I won't be going back to it for that round.

I am going to try it in my 25.06 the print data is impressive so we will see hopefully that or retumbo will get it done

Im gonna try to get some 270 wsm, 300 wsm, 270 and 243 loaded up and head out to the range in a couple days with the chrony and see what is going on, just hope it works in the short mags, thats what we really got it for, the 243 data looked good, 3050 fps with the 100 gr, that gun likes 4350 so I will be able to compare directly with that rifle.

.................This was my first try using the RL 17. Basically, I when going into new territory, I prefer to find a guinea pig so to speak, who has posted their results first. If their loadings are or at near max, I will always start lower and work up the loads in my rifles.

My dealer finally had some RL17 the last time I was there. Since I started using the 168 gr Berger hunting VLDs for big hog use several months ago, I thought I`d give the RL17 a try and duplicate a load recently posted on the "reloadersnest" site (load # 5506) that I ran across which uses the 155 gr hunting VLD.

From his 300 WSM M/70 with a 24" barrel, his group accuracy was around 0.700" which gave him 3380 fps using the 155 gr VLD with 69 gr RL17. Aside from my use of the WLRM primer, all the components and COAL (2.88") were the same.

My results were; 0.784" which gave me 3234 fps. However, my velocity was chrony`d from a 16.5" barreled 300 WSM Ruger Frontier compact. My velocity averages run about 4.5% behind the 24" barrels. The VLDs also have a little less bullet surface that contacts the bore, which along with the RL 17, may also account for my increase as well.

No doubt, 69 gr of RL17 is very close to max. There were no ejection marks on any case heads and no sticky bolt. No need to push that envelope any further. My previous best was 3118 fps using a 150 gr SST.

In your dad`s 300 WSM, please start lower at about 65 using a 150 gr and work up.

Alliant shows a max of 69.3 RL17 using a 150 gr Speer getting 3343 fps from their 24" barrel.

Hope this info helps you out!.....Good luck!
