Well, thank you Osprey78 for spotting some powder at a local gun show. I managed to buy 2 1lb canisters of powder that have made my choice easier for me. I have a 1lb of IMR4895 and a 1lb of IMR8280 XBR. Now the fun will begin at the range again. I love it.

Is it possible to get someone to run a quickload for me. I can't find anything in my Nosler manuals.

.308 Winchester
IMR8208 XBR powder
Nosler 165gr Partitions
CCI200 primers.

I am very excited to try the IMR8208 XBR as I have read lots of good things about it.

Thanks

I've worked up some fabulously accurate loads in the .308 with IMR8208XBR and 168 grain TSX. It was humbling to see what that cartridge can do. I have no doubt the Partition is capable of some fantastic accuracy.

It looks like 43-44 gr is about max with various 165 gr bullets according to Hodgdon and Quickload. I would expect great things out of a 308 and IMR 8208 since both are known for excellent accuracy.

308win is a fine calibre :) when I was loading for it I never had a problem with accuracy :)!
I had a BLR but never really had a need for a 30 cal.

Blessings,
Dan

I have a .308 in a LH Tikka stainless lite with a Zeiss Conquest 3X9. I'm shooting 150 gr. Interbonds.
I bought this combo for a short range woods rifle and low light conditions. I wanted a .30 cal. for the larger exit hole so maybe there would be a better blood trail in our dense pine and briar thickets.
So far, trailing hasn't been an issue as nothing has made it over 30 yards after being hit.
I haven't wrung it out for accuracy yet so I'm following this thread with great interest. I want to try RL15 as it is formulated for temp. stability. But as the man says; "Availability dictates powder."

I have had good results using 8208 almost as good as Varget.
Anything over 42.5 started to open up 41.8 was real good but I settled on 42.2.
I used SMK 168 for initial testing I'm sure PT's would do as well. Skid

One thing I forgot..
In MY testing I found a significant increase in velocity as
temps went up....45 deg to 73 deg. I had speeds of 50-70 fps
faster at 73 same load I did it because we had huge temps swings that week I was shooting.
I have the targets dated with temp and speeds in my
log...so much for temp sensitive. Just my 2 cents. Skid

Everybody from Pulaski County and the Ocmulgee can shoot good.

No problem good buddy. I am so glad I found it for you. Now can I hopefully have some peace and quiet from hearing how your BLR won't group for you?....

Skidmark, Sounds like some local knowledge here. Just wait till the temps hit 90 and up and the humidity settles in at 100%, then report your velocity changes. DH

Thank you for the info. I am excited to try some loads with this powder. I have read that the 8208 powder was not affected by temp changes. Here is what I found from IMR's info on the 8208.

There’s no Target too small for IMR 8208 XBR

IMR’s 8208 XBR is a rifle powder based on an old favorite among the benchrest community, real sticklers for accuracy, with a distinct difference. There is virtually no change in velocity with modest or extreme change in temperatures. The ballistics group at IMR has tested this powder from -40 to +165 degrees Fahrenheit with virtually no performance variation.

In the field Mr. Jim Carmichael tested the new powder in a practical way; he won the 2009 Heavy Varmint Aggregate at the International Benchrest Shooters National Championship.

Pleasant weather, cold or hot IMR 8208 fills the bill with championship performance in many cartridges from .223 Remington to .458 Winchester. Whatever you are aiming at it’s no match for new IMR 8208 XBR. The legend is back

Will be very interesting to try it. Any where that I call for powder here in Western Canada says no powder till poss late summer.

I bought it to try cause no Varget.
I read the same thing about not
being temp sensitive. Don't forget
to post you findings when you get going
I'm interested how it will work for you. It pressured
up quickly for me. Good Shooting
