Well I’m finally going back! In May I’m taking my two kids to Namibia. I went back when they were in grade school and they loved the picts and stories I brought back so I promised them that I’d take them if they graduated from college. Well, they have and I am. I’ve given them a trophy fee budget and they are studying all the different species. We’ll make a bunch of trips to the range to practice shooting off of sticks at steel targets. Starting with 17HMRs and finishing with the chosen hunting rifles. My daughter will take my Kimber 7-08 because it fits her the best. I’ll probably load it with 140ABs or a lighter monolithic. My son wants to take his 6mmx284 but I think that’s a bit light. It might be ok if I loaded it with Etips. I’d prefer he take my 270wsm or 280AI for this trip. For me, I like the big stuff. I’m deciding between my 28Nosler or my 338x28Nosler. I’m targeting eland, sable and waterbuck. I used a 325wsm last trip and it performed flawlessly but African game is tough! That gun resides in a place of honor in my safe. It has taken 26 animals in it’s career and will never be sold by me.
Really enjoying prepping for this trip. Bringing the kids makes it really special!
I won’t pull seniority on my kids while we’re hunting except for one occasion. If we run across a 60”+ Kudu; I got dibs😀

Either rifle you mentioned will work very well for you. What a great opportunity for your children. No doubt they'll build some great memories on this trip, as will you.

Sounds like a great trip!
Sable has always interested me, and was my wife's bucket list animal. She got a nice one, that stood broadside for her at 235 yards. She also enjoyed he springbok hunt, although she found that their constant movement challenging. (We went to SA, as some of the species I wanted were in the Eastern Cape - nyala and bushbuck))
You'll enjoy that sable hunt!
I was to take an eland on my trip, but life got in the way and some of my funds had to go to other priorities, so I did not take one on my trip, but will when I get the chance to go back. Hope you get yours! They are majestic animals!
The waterbuck has never really intrigued me, but its cousin, the lechwe does (go figure! LOL) The Kafue lechwe with the black accents is really striking to see. Not sure if they have them in Namibia though. The black lechwe is also very cool.
A friend has been to Namibia and really liked it, and took his son back to tunt there too.

Look forward to hearing what animals your kids decide to put on their lists.
The 7mm-08 should work fine for your daughter with the 140 gr AB.
Your son's choice should work fine on the smaller animals like springbok, impala, etcv., but as you suggest may be light if he decides to take some of the larger/tougher animals, like oryx, wildebeest, zebra, etc., although a good bonded or monometal bullet may improve its performance on larger game due to its extra velocity...as always bullet placement is key. But should he require it, he could always borrow your rifle for those larger/tougher animals. The 270 WSM or 280AI would also work just fine.

Hope you all have a great adventure and create some fantastic memories!

The only tough part about the 338-28 Nosler and Africa is the name on the cases not matching the barrel. Some countries dont do that.

I’m not sure which was my favorite hunt. Possible the Nyala, Kudu was my nemesis for days, I think day 8 out of 10. The Eland was the best and toughest stalk. Almost an hour from first sighted to dropping the hammer.
Don, That's a beautiful Eland.
