i'am going to buy my wife a 270 win. i've never owned this calibre before. so i'am trying to get a feel for what bullet to load for her. i'am leaning more towards the 150 or 160 in either bullet. she'll be hunting elk, and deer, bear also if she so wishes this year. i load my 7mm rem. mag with 175 gr. partitions and they work well for my rifle, but i've heard for a 270 i'am better off to go with these types of bullet. the only time i may use this rifle is for when i go sheep or goat hunting so i'am looking for a good all around bullet for these species. any advice or personal experience with these bullets for this calibre would a huge asset in my decision for her shooting needs. thanks

For one general purpose no fear bullet I would load the 140 AccuBond or Barnes TSX. Whichever shoots most accurate is the one I'd pick and not look back. H4831SC should be a winner. If not, try RL-22 and IMR 4350.

When I start loading for my late grandfather's .270 I will use (in order) 130 Partition, 150 Partition, and if those two don't shoot well enough, I'll try ABs, then 140s. I see my .270 as a chance to do things as Jack O'Connor did (sorta... rifle is a Remington 725, not an M70).

In the 277 cal, the AB is offered in 130 gr and 140 gr. The BT is available in 130 gr, 140 gr and 150 gr weights. The PT offerings include 130 gr, 140 gr, 150 gr and 160 gr Semi Spitzer.
The 140 gr AB/PT would be a great all around bullet for the 270 Win, 150 gr PT for the bigger critters.

You might want to consider the 280 Remington. Plenty of 7mm bullet weights and styles offered. The 140 gr AB/PT would cover most everything, 160 gr AB/PT will cover everything.

Just realized I didn't answer the question. Given those two bullets, I would choose the AB. 140 if bear and elk are on the agenda.

Honestly?

140 Partition at 3000 fps (24" tube") with RL22 , imr 7828, h4831. That is all you need.
I have done everything with this load.

Uh, POP, while I agree with you, this is in the loaded ammo forum...

We are a .270 Win family. Everybody has at least one, maybe 4 or 5.
We used to shoot the 150gr Partitions for elk, now we shoot the 140 gr AB/Bt for almost everything. If you want one bullet in the .270 for mic to moose, it's the 140 AccuBond.

thanks for the input you guys i appreciate it. antelope sniper what was the ab/bt doing so well or different for you to leave the 150 Partition out of the picture. (ie.) better penetration, mushrooming effects, flatter shooting bullet.

Better groups.
The AB/BT's shoot under 1/2 inch in all my guns. Partitions shoot closer to 1.25 to 1.5 inches at 100 yds.
