Barrel life, pretty cool article

For me this is a new perspective.
Interesting to say the least. I'm going to have to take some time and look at barrel life in a whole new light.

Yessir.
When I saw 6 seconds I freaked. Thought, gee, that must be a really crappy barrel.

This site has countless articles and they all seem to have great info in all the articles I have read and I have had this one bookmarked forever! I have been digging around and lots of good stuff !!

I have this site bookmarked also. Good reading and thought provoking. For instance, the article on barrel tuning...
Being a shooter who was also a toolmaker and is known for never being satisfied. I am also one who loves to tinker with rifles and loads. So years ago when I first read about Browning's BOSS I knew I had to have one.
So in '97 I bought a stainless stalker in .300 Win. Mag w/BOSS. In 3 years I learned a lot about that rifle because I kept all my targets and data, for instance at almost to the round at 100 shots groups suddenly tightened up substantially. Barrel break in I guess.
I found the factory suggested sweet spots to be useless for my rifle.
I ended up with a deer load using 165 gr. bullets that printed under .2 with specially prepared cases, neck turned, neck sized, etc. I also took an elk with a 180 gr. load that grouped .520 with FL sized cases and no extra prep. Go figure.
It takes a lot of shooting and time to work in these loads as the barrel heats up so fast and any change in bullet or components might mean starting all over.
But still, I enjoyed every minute of it.
I wonder though, with all that shooting, how many seconds of barrel life that rifle has left?
