barrel ?

Just in case you need a little nudge.....

Lots of barrels in stock so you don't have to wait. I noticed there are a few nice Obermeyer 30 cal barrels just waiting for you to choose one....and there is a real nice Rock Creek barrel in 6.5 that is an 8 twist, fluted, would make a nice tube to build your 6.5 whatever on!

Come on, you deserve a new rifle!

I might have Jim Cloward put the barrel on, he's done it before. Or maybe R-Bros rifles, they're doing really good work.

Hot as in 300 RUM? I think I would stick with the .308, I think you would regret going to something else. just my .02.

Oh, pretty sure I'll stick with the .308 - we're sort of a team anymore.

Besides, what the heck would I do with all those .30 cal Nosler, Sierra and Berger match bullets if I didn't have an accurate .308 to fling 'em downrange?

For a hot rod, I guess I could just re-barrel my .25-06 anyway... It's going to be toast one of these days too... Although I've cut back a little on my use of it the past couple of years.

You can always go back to a .308 on the next rebarrel.
But if you are looking for a change,,,,I like David's idea.
6.5-284 would be my choice in that dilema.

Guy,
My buddy had an M40 clone built when he got back from Iraq. It looks similar to yours and is about as authentic as you can get without stealing one from Quantico. Anyway, it's got the Gary Schneider barrel in the correct M40 contour. Talk about shooting the lights out and a joy to clean after shooting a 60 round match! I'm no Marine, but my buddy was and he explained that the Corps went with his barrels because even after putting enough rounds through it to burn up the throat (that's a lot of .308), they kept on shooting the lights out. I know Gary has a love/hate relationship with certain gunsmiths, but damn his stuff shoots well. I only bring it up because your rifle looks a lot like my buddy's and you were thinking about staying with .308. Good luck with what ever you choose!
Joe

Definately keep that one a .308! It would just be wrong to change it you already know her inside and out. But on the other hand a 6.5-284 on a LA SS FW M70 would be sweeet!!

I've had 8+ Schneider barrels as well and every one of them shot exceptionally well. I don't think you'd go wrong with another Krieger though.

guy, i like the 308 as well and have owned them but i would suggest the 6.5x47 for several reasons. 1 your gaining velocity and bc "i know that bc doesnt mean alot to some but if your shooting matches in windy conditions everything helps" 2950fps with a .550 bc thats narrowing the correction paremeter x2. 2 you can seat the bullets out where they need to be and still have room left over. 3 the recoil will be less than your .308. 4 your burning less powder. 5 comparable bullets are cheaper. and lastly the 6.5x47 is everybit as accurate as the .308 and with guys that dont get to shoot as much as they need to even more so. 6.5-284? not on a short action and way too much heat after a 22 round string. the 308 is a stud and always will be so if you stick with the familiar i dont blame you.

I have spoke with a few of the 2112's at Quantico and one of my good mates was the Staff NCOIC of the place for a tour. He said the Schneider barrels that were being tested would still keep MOA at qualifying range with 10000 rounds down the tube, they weren't able to wear them out to make them shoot bad. Again, I take his word, as again, he was the man that built them and had no reason to BS me, The PWS has no dog in the fight and get what they need to build the best they can. All that being said, Jeff makes a great point about that mighty little 6.5x47 Lapua. Heck, I would think a Featherweight built on a Lapua would make one awesome rifle for my wife. Light recoil, moderate amount of powder used and highly efficient bullets... Tough call, but I am becoming more and more open minded to the 6.5's ability. I am really digging the 264WM and Joels 264WSM..
