We need more .375 Ouch and Ouches!

Give it time Charlie! Gotta whittle down the few other things I have going on right now. The 375 is on the hit list.

I am covered for North American hunting in calibers but not makers. Calibers are: .204 Ruger, .257 Roberts, .270 Win, 7mm Rem Mag, .30-06, .338 Federal and .340 Weatherby

Now, I have (1) Weatherby Mark V, (1) Sako bolt, (2) Czech Mausers and (1) Belgium Mauser, plus (2) Model 70 rifles. Oh well, being over the hill has its priveledges.

Ruger No. 1s

V .204, .223, .22-250, .280
A .257R, 6.5x55, 30-06, .300RCM, .303 British, .30-30, 250 Savage
B 25/06 (x2) .243, .270, .280, 30-06
S 7RM, 300HH, 300WM, 45/70 (x2)
H 375HH, 416 R, 458 WM, 458 Lott,
RSI 7x57

I probably have more, just a quick rundown.

Rem 700s
.204, .223, .220 Swift, 6mm, 25/06, 7RM, 280, 7RUM, 7SAUM, 30/06, 300 RUM, 8RM, 375RUM.

That's a whole lot of Rugers and Remingtons!

Cool.

*And I thought I had too many rifles...

That is a superb collection of No. 1s. You've just about got the spectrum covered!

Thanks,

I just realized the 7SAUM is actually a Model 7, and I'm not sure if I want to admit to myself that I have at least 7 more No. 1s that I didn't have on the previous list.

I have a few Ruger bolts also.

.22LR, .22 WMR, .22 Hornet, .25/06 (3), 6.5 Creedmoor, .270, 7/08, .280, 350 RM.

Wincheringen - very impressive collection. And I like your taste in cartridges!

Guy - you sort of read my mind... I was just thinking that new Alaskan .375 would give me a small but very capable M70 battery. Together with the Featherweight .270 and Sporter .338, those three would hunt the world over without much of a problem.

Hegland, that would be a do it all combo! You would be much smarter than I, with a trio like that...

Didn't you just buy a Remington though?

Even if your battery is not exactly the same model, you can often get pretty close to having a battery of rifles that are set up similarly enough that they are practically interchangeable in use. What I mean is, that with my current rifle mix, I have (6) Mauser based rifles or clones of Mauser to set them all up the same for: length of pull, close on cheek height, trigger release in pounds, trigger backlash, operation sequence and safety.

They are as much nearly the same as they can be, considering different manufacturers and different scope sizes for specific applications (i.e. varmit, light game, larger game). Plus, I use a consistent across the board cone radius, for sighting in each rifle, of 2 inches high at 100 yards. This simplifies the drop tables that a shooter must learn for each rifle into a more manageable couple of groupoings, instead of 6-7 groups. The stocks are all walnut and are all similar design and shapes which helps simplify switching rifles for a particular hunt.

So, even if you do have different brands, you can get them set up to be as similar as they can be to insure greater ease of changing rifles and what you need to remember in order to do so.

I have 700/721's in the following calibers.
221FB
223 Factory
22-250 Factory SS HB
22BR
(2) 6mm
6BR
.243AI
25-06 Sendero
(2) 7rm Factory
7 saum Sendero
(2).284 Win.
(2) 7STW
.308 Factory HB
(2) 30-338
(2) .30-8mm
.308 Baer
.30-.378 IMP.
.300 RUM Sendero
(2) .338 Baer
.358 STA
.375-.358STA
.375 RUM
.416RM
.458 Lott
Plus 2 more 700 SS actions and 1 blued. 1 for a 7-300wm, one for a Lapua AI, and the other for a .300WSM or another .30-.338 with a 17 twist barrel to shoot little bullets fast. Some of the factory guns will most likely be donors too.

Short of the lack of 6.5's and fast .25's (which I've never really been a fan of despite having a custom 6.5-.284 and .264wm) I think I have pretty good coverage. I might have to build a .470 Capstick. .416 RUM, and another .375 to help my bore size average though.

When I finally moved my lathe to my new shop a few weeks ago I looked at the date of manufacture on it. It was 1992. So I have been building my own guns for 20 years this year. It makes it easier when you can build your own.

I knew there were multiple reasons I wanted to live in Idaho when I retired!!!

I feel a little inadequate now.

I'm just a gun pack rat. I hate selling them. Kind of that way with barrels too. I have the following custom barrels waiting for me to do something with them.
6.5mm Bartlein 7.5 twist Palma
7mm McGowen 10 twist #5
7mm Krieger 9 twist Rem Var.
7mm Obermeyer 9 twist #5 (on order) 7-300wm project
30 Krieger 10 twist Rem Var.
30 Hart 10 twist 1.450 straight
30 McGowen 11 twist #5
338 Obermeyer 10 twist 1.5" for 36" (waited 16 months for this one so hopefully the 7mm is in fact the 1-2 months I was quoted)
338 Brux 9.3 twist LV
338 Krieger 9.35 twist 1.00" at the muzzle
50 24 twist (for a custom muzzleloader. Not sure if it's going to be smokeless or BP yet)

Always need a few around in case I get a itch to build something.

Man, I gotta visit you while I am in ID this year!
