I already have tags for whitetail, mule deer, black bear, moose and elk in my pocket. I can take coyotes and wolf without a tag. Now, it is time to put in for my Limited Entry Hunts. I'll definitely put in for fall grizzly again, and I'll put in for a late season elk just to extend hunting. The late season elk begins in December and extends the hunt through February. If I don't tag an elk in the regular season, this would be insurance in my pocket. I want to put in for goat. There is some fine hunting close by, and even for an old duffer like myself I can still get up to the critters. I'm torn, however, as it would be nice to get a bison draw in October. However, the odds are pretty long on the bison. I haven't made up my mind, but I need to get these into the Ministry of the Environment shortly. I trust I'll be hunting elk in Alberta this coming season as well.

Man, Mike, you really have the run of game. WT, Muleys, elk, black bear, griz, moose and bison! I would pass out from all the possibilities! Good luck to you, hope you go for a bison! Scotty

Just had a call from a woman with a grizzly prowling around her farm. Could I come shoot it. I passed it off to a friend who has a tag in this area. I'll go out with him this evening to back him up. Hopefully, we'll see the bear. She is concerned because her two-year-old grandson can't go out of the house.

Mike, good luck with the bear. I hope you get a bead on him. Man, I bet you are wishing that 9.3 was ready and tuned up. I can't help but think that would put a heckuva stop on a griz!!!! I know that is a nuisance kinda case, but I would take that, in order to live in the same areas as they inhabit! Scotty

I'll carry my 356. I'll be backup for the fellow with a tag. He's carrying a 300 Wby. The grizzlies can be a problem at times. Nevertheless, they are awesome creatures.

Mike,

Good luck with the problem grizzly bear.

Your tag selection is fantastic. Hope you can tag a Bison. That will fill a couple freezers.

Thanks, Jim. He has been hanging around, appearing in the yard for the past several evenings. I'm heading out in a couple of hours. Hopefully, I'll have a couple of pictures shortly. My freezer still has quite a bit of bison in it. It can be a fun hunt, and it has been extended into October, so I shouldn't need a sled to get into the area.

Mike,

I have 2 freezers if you need some extra space.

I hope you fellas can put the smack down on that grizz. Take lots of pictures.

I'm headed out the door momentarily. I'm packing my 325 WSM loaded with 200 grain PTs. This load has smacked down moose and elk right smartly, and it should work quite well on a grizzly. If Aime and I are successful this evening, I will post pictures. If not, then we'll likely be out again tomorrow; and if necessary, we will be out Sunday evening.

Mike,

The 325 WSM loaded with 200 grain PTs will ventilate the biggest grizzly with ease. Good luck and be safe.

Looking forward to seeing some pictures Mike! Can't wait to see that 325WSM laying over some prime Spring hair! Scotty

"tags for whitetail, mule deer, black bear, moose and elk in my pocket. I can take coyotes and wolf without a tag. "

That is GREAT! I've got deer, bear and elk tags for Washington. Doubt I'll actually draw any of the limited entry stuff. North America has a pretty good variety of game for us to hunt, and I really appreciate the hunting opportunities I've had over the years.

You go get 'em Mike!

No bear tonight. We'll go out again tomorrow evening. It sounds like a big boar trying to get at beavers in a pond near the house. There was a bit of a mix-up, so I have to phone again tomorrow to clear matters before heading back out. On the other hand, we saw at least fifty deer (both whitetail and mule deer), at least three moose and several elk. There was one coyote that I saw. All the animals look to be in prime shape. The snow was deep this past winter, but the animals appear to have weathered well. There is still about two to three feet of snow in the bush, so there aren't a lot of bears moving around, but there are the first big boars. That is encouraging. We are having some warm weather right now, so we want to get on them before they get rubbed.

All I know - If I lived somewhere I could hunt that many species through the year, it would equal a divorce in my house.

Mike - You live in a fantastic part of our world.

After giving it thought and considering the responses I received from Scotty and Jim, I'll put in for grizzly and late season elk as I said. And I will definitely put in for bison and mountain goat. Odds are long on bison, but one can never tell. I have access to a sled if I get into heavy snow.

Mark, I'm hard pressed to want to leave now that I'm here. My wife retired in December and immediately spent the winter in Kansas and Missouri. She asked if I was ready to move back south. I carefully explained that I still had a lot of work to do here. She made a funny little sound and said something about hunting being more important than eating. I think I pulled one over on her.

Man, I need to find an exchange program to get into Canada somewhere and let the Marine Corps pay for the move! HA!!!

I just looked at where Mike resides on Google and what a flood of memories. To me, I was in HEAVEN. There was big muleys on the flat parts and gigantic elk, moose, griz, mtn goats, sheep and every darned thing else in the Mountains. It really is a true hunters paradise. You all can have Africa, I would take British Columbia any day of the week! It is unreal. I imagine the Yukon and NW Territories is awesome as well, but man, BC has soo much to offer the hunter and outdoorsman. Scotty

I am humbled to live here. If I am successful in drawing bison, I would pick up a caribou tag for that same period. I confess that it is a bit opportunistic rather than planned. We have caribou just outside of town, but the huntable populations are about two hours north.

Hey Mike if you want to hunt for coastal mountain goats I could give you a few ideas by pm of course :) I will apply for fall grizzly, goats, moose and california bighorns myself and possibly elk in your neck of the woods.

Good luck finding the grizz.

I believe the grizzly has moved on. I'll look again tomorrow evening, but every indication is that he has moved on. There was some miscommunication with one family. They saw a black bear and identified it as a grizzly; however, it appears to be a large boar. I may go back down and look for him. The grizzly that the lady phoned about appears to have been a grizzly, but it has moved on. She is thoroughly familiar with bears and I don't believe she misidentified the animal. Now, to get the applications in.
