BC Limited Entry Hunts

Maybe a good old fashion honey burn. It will bring in a bear from a long ways.

Spokane WA is 3 hours S of BC and 30 Min from Idaho !!!!! Nice area, lots of trees mild climate. Very close to Coure de Lane Idaho!!!

JD338,

I've never done a honey burn. I would guess that it would work quite well. It is against the law to bait in BC. I wonder if that would be treading a fine line. I'll ask a CO, as it might be an interesting experiment.

Like JD I have lots of freezers, (4) and I live a lot closer, so if you need additional meat storage just ring me up. Like you I just love the Grizzly, I know that they are nasty, mean tempered bruts with distain for most (all) other creatures, but evey time I see one (3) what remaining hair I have stands up. Its nice to know that we still have them in manageable populations.
Sounds like your fall season is coming together pretty well. is for me to, assuming we draw in NE Oregon (should have no problem) then I still have time for another hunt or so. Am thinking general early archery elk in Wa, and a late controlled hunt in Idaho where the odds are not good, they keep reducing tag numbers there. Have a great day

Bill,

Again, your generosity overwhelms me. It is only, what, a seventeen hour drive to Spokane? Consequently, we moved to BC in 1980. As we drove through Coeur d'Alene, my wife exclaimed, "Let's just stop now! This is far enough." Dedicated soul that I am, I kept driving. It is lovely country, however, And I have always liked Spokane. Good luck on your season.

generosity and my overwhelming desire to help others are my two greatest faults, especially when it comes to hunting and other outdoor persuits.

Mike I just got home from the hospital after having my gall bladder removed, but I can be there in a couple days to go Grizzly Bear hunting! Good luck to you and shoot straight. I would love to be there just to experience it! 8)

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

David,

Trust you will be up and around quickly. Those surgeries can be required on very short notice. Fortunately, they usually resolve pretty quickly. We're pulling for you.

I feel really well and haven't had to use the pain meds since I got home! Four little cuts and it was over which I heard is a lot better than how they used to have to split you clear across the middle. Pretty amazing. Anyway I think I could go griz hunting as a helper and camerman, but not much good for packing right now!

Well, if I'm successful on a full hunt again this year, you're welcome to come film for me. I'd love to have you along. Entries go out on Monday and draws will be announced by early July. I've settled on grizzly, mountain goat, late season elk and early season bison for LEH entries. Then, I'll have my usual tags for moose, elk, whitetail, mule deer and black bear. Wolves and coyotes are freebies. I've had a couple of farmers asking if I wanted to take out a cougar for them as they were pestering their horses. One of these days I need to buy a tag for wolverine, just because.

I can just imagine the paper work for that amount of meat. :p Sorry for stealing the original post topic.

I went to a childhood firend's funeral in Idaho a couple years ago, and at the border crossing I was asked about fruit and other stuff. I said I have a "SMALL" cooler in my jockey box with Moose peperoni and some elk/moose kubasa. Vacumm packed and used to consume myself during my road trip from northern Alberta. The Border guard got all in a fuss over the MOOSE meat products. Had to get out, show him the small cooler. I showed him the paperwork I got for transporting from the Alberta F&W (just incase had an issue crossing into the USA-CITES document if I remember right). He was going to take it and then HIS boss showed up and was asking about the delay in the lineup.

I gave him my documents, he then said carrry on, have a good trip with a smile.

BTW Dr.Mike...congrtas on the lottery winnings!! Good Luck on the hunts!!

Actually, fall draw results won't be posted until July. I finally put in for mountain goat, bison, late season elk and grizzly. Now, the waiting.

Taking fruits, vegetables and meats into the States has turned into a trial. I remember years ago when my wife took a bear roast (marinating in her special marinade) on a plane trip to Kansas. It generated some interest, but no particular concerns. Things have changed, however. I don't believe she would try such a thing today.

Good luck DrMike. It sounds like you'll have plenty of great hunting stories to share. Maybe the bear will even come back to your neighbors.

Well, Gerry, I may be making a trip over to the Skeena region. I drew Skeena 6-15 for mountain goat. I was unsuccessful for grizzly this fall or for late season elk. I guess I'll have to tag my elk early. Consequently, I'd put in for mountain goat in the Bull Moose region close to home as my first choice. Well, I'll have to do some serious work. I believe I'll carry either my new 280 or my 7mm WSM for goat.

Glad you got your goat tag, either your 280 or 7mm WSM will work well for goat. I would pick which ever one can handle the typically rough goat country better. Actually I wonder how your 356 Win would work :)

The 356 would work just fine, especially if I can get above the goats and work down toward them as they rest.

I didnt get any LEH's this year, first time ever!! Gonna spend a week up in Chetwynd in late october, and hope to find my first elk. But i know they are hard to find that time of year. WT and moose are also open though. Should be a good trip.

SR80,

There are certainly elk still around at that time of year, but they are getting a bit wary. On the other hand, there should be good moose this year. I've seen a lot of moose, and they appear to be in great shape. There seems to be a good Whitetail population as well. You'll be just a tad early for mulies, but they look good as well. Which side of Chetwynd will you be hunting? I've conducted quite a few trips into the regions along the Sukunka and up the Burnt, as well as hunting extensively throughout the Hassler area. You should do well.
