Be sooo careful

Well, that would get your attention! Safety equipment helps, but as the old saying goes, the best safety is the one between your ears. God was indeed merciful to that gentleman, just as He has been merciful to me on more than one occasion. A good reminder. Thanks for the link, CL.

When I was driving from CA to ID for my annual elk hunt I usually took 4 rifles. Now, because of things like this story, all of my rifles purposely do not look the same. I also mark my ammo boxes with big labels and large lettering. I've done these things to prevent that from happening to me, and I also take an extra minute or two to ensure I am grabbing the correct ammo for the rifle I'm packing.

I have always used different coloered plastic boxes to store my ammo. I also use magic marker in different colors on my case heads to mark various loads in the same cartridge.
You can`t be too careful, especially when you have something like a 708 & 308 on hand at the bench.

Had something similar happen @ our local gun club. New member had 4 guest shooting a 7 mag and .308, no eyes or ears. Went over and told him the shooter had to have eyes and ears. Was down on another range teaching a pistol course, some one comes running down. The gun just blew up, managed to fire a .308 in a 7 mag. Blew the mag out the bottom bullet actually went down the bore and exited, shooter was not injured other than abrasion on his face from blow back, glasses saved his vision. Sako rifle held together, very lucky. .308 and 7 mag ammo in the same 100 round box.

762nato,

It sounds like that one was an accident waiting to happen. Good that someone took responsibility to insist on eye and ear protection. Your description of the rifle holding together is quite a testimony to the design of modern rifles. The pressure generated in that instance must have been tremendous.

See- thats why I like this board!!! I posted this exact post on another board and was promptly asked to remove it as it was not a story about "reloads" per se. Obviously they totally missed the point. Maybe the just object top the sight it was originally posted on. Tough! Stay safe ya all. CL
