I had been kicking this bear skull around since 2010. It has been taking up half a shelf in the freezer for 6 years. Finally found a local guy on Facebook of all places who had a strong beetle colony. I just got it back yesterday. It turned out very nice.

Measures right at 18 5/8" B&C. Not big enough for the record books but a very nice black bear. It's my biggest to date.

I also had the baculum (penis bone) cleaned and bleached. I had intended to make it into a stir stick to give to my wife. I was unable to find a food safe sealant so I guess it will have to be a bun holder stick. I'm not sure she will appreciate it as much as she should.

Nice looking Skull. Don't know what you can do with the baculum to seal it. I had a friend who had a bulls baculum that he used as a walking stick when he would dress up as an 1800's gentleman when we would go to rendezvous back in the day when I was into that sort of thing.

Nice looking bear skull. They make a great reminder of the hunt!

My son and I have a few black bear skulls in the 18" range, and you're right, that is a pretty good sized bear, but not big enough for the record books.

I've got a bear skull & hide taking up space in my freezer. Need to do something with that...

The skull did come out quite nice. Congratulations on finding someone to help you in the preparation.

Nice! I've had all my stuff European mounted. I love the way bear skulls turn out.

Great looking bear skull. It turned out well.

Would a baculum from an elephant be used as a club? Would be nice to have one hanging from my back window in my Duramax.

Walrus baculum, called an Oosik , is a tradition Alaskan native club. Elephants don't have one.

Nice skull.
I like your idea of a bun holder for the wife. I hope she appreciates it more than you think.
Merry Christmas.

Have heard bear penis-bones called the same, here in Washington. They're not that big! Much respect for Mr Walrus!

I really like how the skulls turn out doing it that way. Very nice reminder of a beautiful animal. The rug is awesome too.
