Looking for some info on this one. I don’t have much to go on right now. My nieces boyfriend bought this and all I know it’s stamped 1874 and was sent this picture.
My brother has 1 now too. Time to get to work. First sourcing a parent case to make brass off of.
32 gauge shotgun brass is where I started. First needed to trim off excess. Used the bolt head as a stop , pretty close on the length.
Next anneal the brass.
Creating a shoulder was a chore. I lent up sacrificing a 460 Wby FL die , but it worked out. I needed to shorten it up a bit.
After checking that they allowed the bolt to close , then a final trim with a 45/70 leverevolution lee case gauge.
Bullet seating provided a chore also. I was able to make a Hornady 460 Wby seater work with 405gr cast. They fire formed perfectly with 5744.
What I need to come up with is a case neck expander. This big case doesn’t fit in any expander I have.
CH4D will make a die set for the 43 Dutch but the wait time is extremely long and costly.
The one thing going for this cartridge is the bore slugs .457” this makes bullet choices a breeze.
