Bedding compound?

I'm not Pat (and I'm not sure which one of us is more thankful for that...) but here are some sources:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/st ... Z54_ytAS6o

I'm sure there are others. If you have a West Marine store nearby (or any marine supply) you can likely get it there, but it may be more expensive. I think Pat used Acra-Glas Gel on the other thread, but maybe I missed something? Just about the only failing of Marine Tex is that it only comes in white or grey. I'm not sure what I'd use to dye it brown or black if I wanted other colors.

If this is your first time, practice first. Get a smooth piece of steel with angles and contours, apply your release agent, then epoxy it to/into something. You'll get a feel for how much force is required to get it loose.

Some don't recommend doing a full action bed job in one step - maybe 2 or 3 steps. That can be good advice for the cautious. BT

Scotty said, "Pat, where do you get Marine Tex from?" Scotty, you need to know that has nothing to do with the USMC, and is not made specially for their use. Just wanted to clear that up.

Good one Dub!! :)

And you are correct that in the wood stocks I do use Accraglass Gel and use the saw dust to color match.. On black synthetic stocks I use the grey Marine Tex and I did purchase it at a Marine supply place in Ohio way back when.

It is made specifically to patch holes in fiberglass boats and it has never let me down.

You can also use it to rough texture synthetic stocks by spreading it on, letting it set up a bit and then "bouncing" a popsicle stick off the compound. Works pretty good for that.

Easily one of the funniest posts I've seen in a while. Love it, EE2!

All I can say is if it saws MARINE in the title, it probably has to be the strongest stuff available!
