Beretzs (Scotty) this one is for you!

Now, that is just cruel. Very funny, but definitely cruel. The poor boy won't sleep worrying that someone else will shortly own this fine firearm.

I know he has a thing for Super grades

Pop, I hate you right now! Just kidding, but man, my heart just skipped a beat! Where was this rifle 1.5 months ago. I would have forgone a purchase and saved another 1000 to have that. That rifle is out of this world! Man, I am pretty heart broken right now!

PS. Any body want a fully pillared and glass bedded Rem CDL? Barely shot at all and only dropped once! Scotty

It would be worth taking a beating on the CDL just to get your hands on the Super Grade.

You are probably right Mike. I will take the beating if the rifle doesn't shoot now. If it shoots, I will be okay with letting it stay in the safe. If it doesn't, she is going down the road! Scotty

Pop that was just mean spirited. Poor Scotty, I cannot beleive you drove the bus over him like that, backed it up, and did it again!! Funny stuff..............

Heck, as long as you all got a laugh out of it! It is a nice rifle though. Kinda makes me sick now that I didn't get the M70 and do a rechamber job. Might have been cheaper in the end! Scotty

Scotty,

You'll get the CDL shooting. You are well on the way now. I have no doubt that the work you've invested will pay off handsomely. I hope to be shooting my 260 shortly, and I'm planning on doing some fine tuning on my 257 Bob, both CDLs. FWIW, I have had to pillar bed another Remington and do some extensive work on the firing pin, and one of my Hawkeyes is still not finished. It will get a new barrel and a bedding job, and this is after redoing the checkering. Two of the last three New Haven Winchesters I bought received considerable attention due to the poor fit and finish, and three of the last ones I bought from there were all rebedded. It goes with the territory for gun cranks.

Mike, it is funny you mention the firing pin. This CDL has a huge tendency to crater the primers. I thought maybe it was my initial load with Retumbo, but then after firing Remington Factory 100gr Core Lokts, it did the same thing. It "look" like high pressure, but in reality, I think the firing pin needs a bushing, as it is probably undersized. Again, it is another reason that makes me doubt the Remingtons more. My others don't do this, and now this one does? I know it isn't catastrophic or in dire need of fixing, but it is another reason. If I get a chance, I will try and take some pictures of it and show you all. Scotty

There are so many things I'm prepared to overlook, but when I get to looking closely, I tend to expect a measure of quality that is not always present.

That s a fact! The first thing to go when a company starts cost cutting is quality.

Before I even started reading this thread, I figured Scotty would be making a "anyone wanna purchase a freshly bedded CDL"
That has to be about the cruel-est thing I've read on here all year - ( But darn funny and all in good humor )

Scotty - My .223 VTR did the same thing with the primers from the get go. Also had a claw extractor issue going on to where it would trim a piece of the brass each time removing the case - which was hard.

Can't wait to see how it ends up shooting ! Good luck

Yeah, I think Pop has been plotting this on me since I bought the M700! He got the last good one and wanted to rub it in! Either way, in all actuality, it really did me good to learn how to pillar bed and glass a rifle. I think it is a useful skill and it is really pretty easy I think. Most of any of us that read calipers and can mix 2 part epoxy could do the job with little trouble.

If the rifle shoots, I will excstatic, if it doesn't, well, I am not sure just yet? Maybe it will get a good synthetic or something. I couldn't knowlingly pass along a crappy shooting rifle to anybody. Just doesn't seem right. I will start looking for a smith to handle the firing pin. I still really squirm when I think of how sloppily these rifles are made now. Just doesn't seem right to see that rifle have as many flaws as it does. Scotty
