Big Bad Wolf

We have pictures of it at the sporting goods store I work at in Missoula. I was told it was killed around Seeley Lake, MT. We have actual pictures, not just printed off a computer on regular paper. Whether it was shot in Idaho or Montana, it doesnt matter. Just one less deer/elk/dog/cat/cold blooded killer running around!

I was just reading the news on the net from Lewiston Idaho. Looks like the feds are going to allow Idaho to hunt the wolf again in the Lolo unit. I know the Idaho senators have been pushing real hard on this subject. I,ll bet govenor Otter shoots the first one.

That would be great news however I have seen that same thing published several times and then a law suit is filed and the hunting is over with for a couple of yeras and another 30 or 40 thousand head of big game are lost to wolves. The Lolo Zone includes several units and is a huge area with potential for 8,000 elk plus thousands of deer. Even after some wolf reduction its going to be several years before " excellent" hunting returns to the area.

Rumor has it that here in MI there have been a few shot and the DNR are not even looking into it! They are focusing their attention on the 1-2 that were shot in hte northern lower penisula. They have collars that send out a mortality signal ofter 48 hours.

I can't see how people think wolves can manage themselves? We don't let the elk, deer, black bear or anything else go without proper management and trying to keep the herd within specs for the area they live in, why would wolves be any different. Common sense is really not a common virtue! Scotty

Jim, I have a very good friend who's hounds ran a wolf near Traverse City over 10 years ago now. The DNR absolutely swore this was impossible. My buddy knows for certain it was no coyote, which he runs all winter long when there is little else to do.

Randy,

There were a couple that died in Cheboygan this winter and the fish cops are all over it. I have heard of sightings more than once in the TC area. I am 100 miles from TC so its only a matter of time.

Collarded animals are tracked and when the mortality signal is sent, LE is all over it. My buddy told me yesterday that something happened last week where I rifle hunt as the fish cops were there in 4 vehicles and a couple of sleds. He figured someone wacked a big dog but I was thinking moose as there are some in the area.

The area was just a bit south between Manton and Kingsley. So maybe 80 miles from you Jim. I'm guessing it was close to 2000 when this took place. I have a sister who lives in Cheboygan. Beautiful place but very cold!
