Black Rifles (Or Maybe Not)

Nice ones fellas!

Here is mine. Doublestar Socom model. Badger tactical charging handle and the oversize trigger guard ( came from D-star that way).

I added the magpul front furniture and the Matech rear sight. I plan on an aimpoint or eotech in the future.

I have a DPMS oracle that is getting a facelift this weekend with some Magpul MOE acccessories. Ill post some pics when I get it finished.

Keep them coming, its fun to see everyone elses modular firearms

Just got me a tactical front grip tonite!

How do you all like the MOE handguards?

I'll let you know when it gets here! ;)

I looked at the Sig M400 hunters, which have a full length, floating MOE handguard, and it's really comfortable in the hand. That's why I wanted one for the carbine, even though it's not floated. That and rails sections can be attached to the MOE so you can have a more comfortable handguard AND have rails, too.

That'd be great. The price is attractive but I wonder how tough they really are. I guess if I put a crack in a $30 hand guard it's not a huge deal.

Here are my two entry level build/kit guns. The lower of the top gun is a DoubleStar. The bottom lower is a Surplus Arms & Ammo. Both kits were ordered from J&T Distributing (and I believe J&T is, or is in cahoots with, Doublestar as both kits were labeled as such). Both are 223/5.56. The bottom was my first one. Standard 16" HBAR, no frills really. It has Nikon P-series mounts with a Nikon P223 3x BDC. Being that it was my first, it was also a bit of a learning experience from me. For instance the front sight/gas block... If I had known better at the time, I would have ordered it with a top picatinny gas block. But I went ahead cut the sight off and dressed the metal a bit. The top AR is a 20' bull barrel with a free floated handguard. I did the correct gas block on this one... sort of. I'm now looking for options to attach a bipod for yote hunting... it may need a different gas block if I can't find an option to get one the handguard (which is my preference so as to preserve the point of the free floated handguard). About the only other thing done to this rifle to this point is the trigger guard and grip. The trigger and optics are the next big items on the list for this one. At any rate, neither one of these will do much for the refined AR folks, but I sure like em... so far

This one was fun, and quiet. Shot it so much that the handguards were too hot to touch!

I'm on my first personal AR-15, but maintain 7 for the team and another 20 for two departments. Unlike what some say, there's really not a lot of maintenance required if they're kept reasonably clean and fed good ammo through good mags. It's been about 35 years since I first laid my paws on an AR-15/M-16. I remember it took a little bit to get used to them, but I'm pretty familiar with the basics now. Don't get real exotic with "my" rifles and discourage a lot of modifications. Keep 'em simple, keep 'em working.

Guy, those are cool pictures of the rifles at the range....

BUTTTTTT, what the heck is your son, a Marine Officers boy wearing an Air Force beanie for? Halloween? HA!

He's an Air Force veteran. What can I say?

Gotcha! I didn't know you had a boy in the AF.. That's pretty cool... I imagine that must make for some friendly competition at home once in awhile..

He drops in now and again to bug me and Mama. Mooches a meal time to time. Or talks me into loading ammo for one of his rifles or handguns... Can outrun me easily, but still doesn't do well against me in a wrestling match.

He's a good "kid" - don't see much of him on the forum here 'cause he's not real interested in hunting, and doesn't live at home. The younger brother gets the camera time. Mostly the older son and I ride motorcycles together in the warmer months.

He does like that AR-15 varminter of his. No doubt. He's had it about 10 years now. Saved up and bought it when he was still in high school. I gave him the scope. It's a pretty good shooter too.

Some of us are late bloomers. Sometimes hunting needs to sneak up on us. They don't know what they are missing!

I wonder who's gotten their hands on the Noveske Varmageddon AR? They look pretty nice.

Here is mine - Bushmaster with Magpul furniture. It's my night time around the house coyote gun. It has four kills that need to be notched yet. I'm going to lose the scope and keep the Trijicon and add some flip up open sights. Has single point sling I tied myself out of paracord.

All this black rifle talk....

My recent black rifle purchase. Sometimes the deal is too good to pass.

Remington 7400 carbine (18 inch barrel) in 35 Whelen. Came with a Leupold 1.5-5 scope.

Ran 25 rounds through it earlier this week. Flawless function. Keep these rifles clean and brush out the chambers and they shoot.

Lets see, 223 cal shoots....ah 50 gr bullets X 20 round mag (plus one in the chamber) = 1050 grs down range in one magazine

35 Whelen - ah 250 gr bullets x 4 round mag (plus one in the chamber) = 1250 grs down range.

Well, which is better?

458 Socom. 325gr FTX multiplied by however many you can pack into a mag

I do like those those Remington autoloaders, though. I never thought they got as much credit as they should.
