I got up early this a.m. and headed north to my one set wonder of a coyote ground. It was just starting to show some light in the east when I pulled up. In a hurry, I jumped out, put my warm clothing on and headed up the road to my spot to start calling.
It's been quite a while since I've taken my 22-250 out, but figured this was the day.
I no sooner than got to my spot, pulled the legs down on the harris bi-pod, flipped open the scope covers and .......... catch somehting moving out of the corner of my eye...... As I look over...... 3 yotes @ 40yds  I hadn't even had time to get my calls out of my pocket and lay down yet. Amazingly all three we in the only spot I couldn't take the shot because of the goose hunters / house in that direction. As I started to lay down, they busted me...... 2 ran behind me and one made the mistake ! He ran about 80yds out in front of me and put the brakes on long enough for me to put the dot from the 12X Leupy on him. A very light touch of the Canjar trigger and the 55gr BlitzKing was on its way. What a horrific sound when it connected  He was just starting to run again when I shot, so I caught him right in front of the hind quarters and about separated him.
I about felt cheated this a.m. due to everything happening so fast.

Yeah baby....That 22-250 shagged that coyote!

Sometimes luck smiles on us. You recovered your composure and took the shot that counted. Congratulations.

Great coyote. My cousin has been slaying the yotes in NY this year. At last count he was at 11 and has called in alot more. I hunted a few times while home on leave, but being really windy, the dogs weren't playing. My cousin uses the same load as I. IMR3031, 52gr Speer HP and man, that load really does a neat job. Usually just a small entrance then complete destruction inside. If it does happen to exit, it is really messy! I love them. Scotty

Thanks Guys !

I have another coyote pop-cycle I'm working on... hopefully it stays cold enough over the next few weeks for me to get it set out.

Nice shooting Mark...as they say; better to be lucky than good!!! Looks like you have both going for you.

I will always take the luck! Need to start hitting them yotes down in Va. Ordered my caller today, to augment my mouth calls. Might be fun.. Scotty

Nice shooting! Those yotes are kind of funny to hunt, some times they are around every corner and some days you can't find one if your life depended on it. Best to shoot every one of the buggers when you can.

It is a lot more fun to call them in though.
