Bolt hard to open

Loaded up some Nosler 50 BT's, 35.5 Varget and Fed 210M's, after firing acouple of loads I had to let the gun sit for a few minutes to open the bolt, on these particuliar loads the bolt was also alittle hard to close. When I reloaded these I only neck resized the brass. Do I have a pressure problem or do I need to full length resize this brass again? I shot the same load only with 36 gr of Varget (JD338, you told me about this some time ago , its been shooting great but I just got a Timney trigger installed and trying to fine tune her now)afew days before with no problem and this is posted in Nosler data load. Never had this happen before, even with some loads that have been hard to close the bolt on. Empty brass looked fine. Appreciate any info! Thanks, Tim

Was the temp out side warmer than the last time you shot this load? If this load happens to be on the edge of MAX for your gun, (does not mean max in the book ) shooting on a day with warmer temps can cause over pressure. I've read where guys will work up loads in the winter that shoot fine but when they try them in the summer they see over pressure signs.

Could these bullets have been seated a little shallow and the bullet was in the lands? This can cause a pressure spike if the load you were running was allowing a little jump to the lands.

Same lot number for the primers and powder? Different lots of the same powder can vary by 10%.

How old is the brass. Maybe a better question is how many times have they been reloaded? Maybe the brass has become work harden and is not contracting like it should when it's fired.

Just some food for thought.

OU812 is spot on with his points.
How many times has the brass been reloaded? I'm thinking that you either need to trim the brass or bump the shoulder back, maybe both.

GEEZ, yes a 22-250 and thanks for the fast feedback! The brass was all trimmed back to 1.90 and its been loaded 3 times(WIN brass). It was actually cooler this day, 76 on this day and 82 the week before. Any of you guys load with this brass and how many times loading do you get out of it? I'm going to make the plunge and buy some Nosler brass, I had just been waiting to get alittle more out of this. I believe I do need to bump the shoulder back some, if this happens again I'll step down some with the powder just to be safe. Tim

One other question on brass, I was given some Norma and some other mixed stuff a few years ago, guy that gave it to me had no idea how many times he had loaded it, going to clean it up and look over, what should I consider for times to load if it all looks good? Thanks

When starting with different brass, remember to start low and work up.
Number of loadings per case is hard to say. It would depend on YOUR chamber dimentions, How hot/mild your loads are, and how you are resizig your brass.

I've been reloading for the 22-250 for a couple of months now. Regular Rem brass loading both 50 and 55 gn BT's over Varget with CCI primers. I have just been partially resizing, barely bumping the shoulders back and have 4 firings on the same brass. I have not had to trim yet. I am not shooting the hottest loads, around 3500 or so. No problems whatsoever. I am out in Wyoming now to do some things, one of which is shooting some PD with some relatives. I will be interested to see what happens at the 300-400 yd ranges.

I have been shooting my 22-250 with Nosler 50 grain bullets, 36.0g of Varget and CCI BR-2 Primers. Also using Winchester brass. If you only neck size your casings your rifle will chamber harder then normal. I was told that you can only neck size your brass so many times before you have to bump the shoulders back. I have found this to be true. I also found that just neck sizing my brass did nothing to improve accuracy. Now I just bump the shoulders back everytime I reload. Keep in mind I'm using these loads strictly for hunting purposes. My last group I shot was 10 rounds at 100 yards. I put them all in under 3/4". Plenty good for shooting coyotes.
