Have a friend who has a Krag cabine setting around. Rifle is in nice shape but probably "sporterized" already. Question is this. The action was intended for a rimmed case so the hornet was the idea. Will talk to a smith and see if he can reline the barrel in 22 hornet. With a peep or my old K2.5 I think it would make a great walk around varmint gun. Am I crazy? CL

To be honest - I hadnt even measured the two. Could be a major hang up as there isnt much holding/keeping the case in place. CL

I have never owned a 30-40 krag but seems like a good round and they have the smoothest action ever.

CL,

The 30-40 Craig has a much larger case than the 22 Hornet. I'm sure a good gunsmith could make a conversion but it may be cost prohibitive to so so.

Yes Cloverleaf, you are crazy, you hang out with us!!
As for the conversion?? If I was going to do it, I'd rebarrel it....but If I really wanted a 22 hornet, I'd probably just watch the gun shows for a nice classic.

Thanks Pop etal. Given the difference in base diameter I would guess it would take some work to the bolt face. That I had not figured on. Of course the round is shorter. All this would conspire to potentially make the smoothest action ever with the neatest loading/feeding mechanism ever a "jammer". Seems like a shame. Best to just find a reduced load for the 30-40. I dosent kick too bad as it is. Recomendations for a .30 light weight varmint bullet? Incidentally my buddy would never let me talk him into refitting his Classic. Like I said "bored" CL
