Brass?

Depends on the caliber.
50 pieces of 416 Rigby cost way more then 200 pieces of Nosler 223 brass. But I like to have at least 250 pieces each.

Yep. I probably have about 1k commercial .223, probably twice that in 5.56. I shoot (OK, OK, own) a lot of weird stuff (.17 Remington, .220 Swift, 6.5 Creedmoor, 7mm WSM, .300 Savage,.300 H&H, .300 RUM/RSAUM, .325 WSM, .358 Winchester, .35 Whelen, .416 Rigby) so I like to have at least 200 of each. Obviously, the Rigby is gonna hurt the wallet...

I really need to pick up a bunch of .243, 7-08, and .308 though. I seem to be shooting them a fair amount.

I usually buy 100 of normal calibers and 50 cases of calibers like the 9.3x74R. Recently, after hunting season, I have been able to get some 9.3 Norma bullets and brass for half price and bought 100 cases and 300 bullets.

Anywhere from 50 to 300 depending on how much I can afford at the time and availabilty. I have right now a 260 Rem, 264 WM, 303 British, 35 Whelen and 375 Ruger so nothing too expensive like the 416 Rigby mentioned earlier or a big Weatherby.

When you buy brass how much do you buy at a time?
As much as I can up to an amount that I'll never need to buy anymore ever again... and occasionally exceed that, depending on the price.

Mostly, 300 rounds or more. By the time I measure, weigh and check each case for capacity, I have culled out several. I'm looking for cases that I can call "match" cases, no matter the caliber or intended use.

And can I tell the difference on targets? Oh, you bet !!!!!!!!!!!

I rarely buy more than about x100. I've paid good money before for brass that was junk and made by well known companies. That tends to make me nervous about buying large quantites, particularly in odd chamberings. Mind you, the biggest issue I ever had was with Winchester 375H&H, over 60% failures on the first shot through split necks.

The brass I hold in quantity though are 223Rem, 308Win, 243Win, 300RUM ... all purchased once-fired and considerably cheaper even after culling the rejects.
Cheers...

As little as 50 and as much as 5000. :) The 303 British doesn't get shot as much as the 38 Super Comp.

Yeah, I generally like to have a lot more handgun brass than rifle brass. It's not that big of deal to shoot the .44 Maggies 100 or more times in an afternoon, or the 1911 twice that many, but 20 rounds is a good day with a rifle.
