Breaking in a barrel?

I am just wanting to know how many of you break in your barrels using a shoot one, clean for a few rounds, then shoot 3 clean for a few more, and if so does it make a lot of difference in the accuracy of your rifle once it is done being broke in. I am just wanting to know what would be the best way to break the barrel in on a new rifle, and if i have a rifle that has been shot 13 times since it was brand new and only cleaned after that is it still to late to do a proper break in for the barrel?

All my rifles--including used--get a break-in regimen, if only abbreviated. It permits me to assess the quality and potential of the rifle.

thanks Mike, sounds good to me, but is it still to late for me to do a proper break in on my Browning X-bolt 7mm WSM that i have fired 13 rounds through.

I'd likely treat such a rifle with a degree of respect, cleaning after every three, four or five rounds until it gave evidence that it was settling in.

will do, i just looked at saw that it has only had 7 rounds shot through it so i should be ok,

Mike gave me a lesson in breaking in and cleaning. I have a new respect for that aspect of shooting and I have seen the results with Mike's ability to develop loads. He makes tiny little groups :mrgreen:

I view this as fairly important just got done with it the other day on my 280AI. Pac-Nor recommends shoot 1 and clean first 10. Shoot 3 and clean next 30. Shoot 5 and clean next 10. It does take a little time and effort to do so but IMO it is worth the time and effort. Especially if you put in the money for a custom tube.
