The population is growing, a conservative estimate is 15,000 bears and a hunter harvest of 300 bears on average which is 2% of the population. The study states hunting is having no impact on grizzly populations, very encouraging but the anti's will cry foul no doubt  Grizzly numbers are doing very well in my area not surprising after looking at their findings.

I see grizzlies almost every time I venture into the mountains, and often wandering through here on the prairies.

I have not seen many but the few that I have seen, have led me to believe there is probably not a more awe inspiring animal in North America. You can feel the testosterone, a mile away. They just look like they were born with a chip on their shoulder.

Bill,

When you watch one glaring at you from 70 yards away as he stands over a moose carcase, then, deliberately lift that carcase with his mouth and walk backwards toward the tree line, watching you all the while, you will know you have witnessed one of the truly great animals of God's creation. Then, when bluff charged by a big boar claiming a gut pile, you will have been privileged to witness a power that is raw and untamed in the extreme. They are beautiful and awe inspiring creatures, that's for certain. I am blessed beyond all expectation to live in country where these great animals live.

We certainly have had our fair share of grizzly encounters, try going to sleep in a thin nylon tent when there is a grizzly close by and it's dark  I am certainly not ashamed to say prayer isn't difficult

Yeah, and if you hadn't been so tired, you might have stayed awake just to know when the final moments were going to happen. More than once I claimed Psalm 4:8 and slept. I'm certain you did as well, Gerry.

Ah, you guys are making me envious. I am lucky to see a black bear once a year and I spend three days a week outside working around the farm.

Gerry lives in some great country for grizzlies. They do get big on the coast.

That's great Gerry. It is truly an animal of which I want to hunt pretty badly, but man, they are incredible animals that are truly the top of their food chain and even ours somedays..

I've seen some big Black Bears in Pa and NY state but never saw a Griz out side of a zoo. I was delivering cotton seed to a farm in south western NY state and watched a big Black Bear climb in the 8' bed of a pick up truck to rummage threw the farm trash and there was barely enough room in the bed for him. He just sat down like he owned it and started eating garbage like he was in a restaurant or at the dinner table. The farmer tried to shoo him away but he just sat there not paying any attention. when he had his fill he got up and climbed out and walked away. I was too amazed at what I was seeing to take pictures. They look so soft and cuddly that you would like to walk up to them but you know better than to try it.
Glad to here the Grizzlys are making a come back.

They were never in danger here in BC, Rodger. There has been a good population for many decades.

Mike I really need to come up and visit sometime when you are not too busy just to see the country side where you live.

The grizzly comeback is successful here in the US according to wildlife officials. Delisting is very likely to occur in 2014 according to the latest reports I,v read.

I believe that will be Nirvana for some of you fellows below the line. Here's hoping.

Rodger stop in Regina and we will jump in my truck and make a trip of it . If in mid June we could maybe get into a little walleye fishing for a day or 2 before :).
My wife always makes enough for a guess or 2 and we have a extra bedroom as well!!

Blessings,
Dan

Dan,

You'd go walleye fishing without me? Man, I'm hurt!

I was thinking the same thing Mike!

How sharper than a serpent's tooth is the fickle disposition of a Saskatchewan friend. :(

Hold on here who was the one that called a mate at 6:00am to come for coffee and then leaves after a short visit. We could have made a day trip to my boat which is only 35 minutes from Regina a 3 day non residence license is around $25.00. Doc I would even chipped for you .
Boat is almost always gassed up for a trip or two:).

Blessings,
Dan
