Brown/Grizz, Yukon Moose, or Dall Sheep?

No one is getting younger. I'd do a sheep hunt that would give you as much leeway to punch a moose and/or bear if one came along.

The North slope would be my pick of areas.

I gotta vote with POP, I am not too enthralled with the Dall Sheep hunts but the Moose and Bear are more my style. Probably take my 30-06 for Moose and my 300 WSM or a 338 Mag for bear!

Thanks fellas! The bear cost was actually surprising to me. I've been digging around some outfitters and it looks like you could do a grizzly for about $10-$13K if you choose the right outfitter. I don't know which would be better - a fall or a spring hunt. The price for grizz seems to be a little less and I presume that is because they are smaller for the most part than the huge coastal (fish fed) brownies. I know I've seen some 9-10' grizz in photos but most of the oufitters say their grizz are 7-9' and I see the brownies going 9-10'.

The moose hunts are almost sick at $15-$17K, although some could be done for about $12K. I'm just not sure of the quality of game/outfitter/opportunity at that cost. BC and western Canada moose run around $10-$12K from what I can tell. You do at least get a lot of the Yukon genetics in some places and 50"+ racks can be had in BC.

I found a couple of sheep hunts in BC for about $13K and that is why I threw them in there. Unfortunately I don't think my health will ever allow such a hunt now.

So......Brownie or Grizzly? Canada or AK?

Thata alot of $$$ just for a moose hunt for 1 week...maybe 2weeks or combo for that price. You can get the same hunt for moose in northern BC or Alberta for less. Maybe not the chance at a 60"+ but for sure 45-50". The more remoteness of location, the more costI guess for acess with flight. I would look into the Muskwa River / Toad Mountain area in northern BC for an outfitter that might have a moose/sheep/grizzly or combo hunt. Seen some impressive animals out of the area come out when I worked on realignments of the Alaska HWY in 9090' thru to 2004.

If it was me...I would do Dall Sheep.....its a passion I should of taken advantage of when the company I work for had an office in the Yukon and I could of worked up there for a couple of years....at the time, my girlfriend (wife now) didnt want to move up there. I worked lots in the Yukon and northern BC over the years. I have been waiting now 13 years for my Trophy Full-Curl Big Horn sheep tag draw here in Alberta. Now I'm 40...Should get it in the next year or 2, but I would definately need to be in tip-top shape for that hunt.

If not, a combo hunt Grizzly and Moose would be a great hunt for sure!!!

Now I'm jealous

A Dr. friend of mine is in the Yukon right now hunting sheep, moose and grizzly bear. Browning A Bolt 30-06 loaded with Federal 180 gr PT's.
It is a high end hunt but I will be seeing the pictures soon.

I can't wait to see how this turns out Jim. Did the Nosler's shoot well for him? I know he was doing some searching to get it shooting. Scotty

Mighty Peace,

I'm heading for Toad River in a couple of weeks. The hunting can be fantastic. I'll stop off along Sikanni Chief River and likely move back toward Nevis Creek first. Always lots of game in that area.

Lucky You......beautiful country for sure. I guess if I lived in Dawson Creek or Ft.St. John (mind you not to far for John is some great areas), I would definately be up in that area hunting too. My last trip working on the Alaska HWY realignment was up near Fireside. Seen a few sweet bull moose as it was late July to mid Sept. when I was working there.

Beautiful country, indeed. Great game in the area, as well. I know that I'm blessed to live here.

The bear of my dreams lives up by DrMike somewhere. That's my long professed dream hunt of a lifetime. It must have to do with the inherent danger of the hunt. Sheep are in my neighbor's pasture and moose are just big deer but a Grizzley
