I use several bullet pullers, Keith. I have Kinetic pullers from at least three manufacturers (RCBS, Frankfort and Quinetic) and the Hornady collet puller. If I'm pulling a number of bullets, I prefer the Hornady collet puller. Otherwise, any kinetic puller will eventually fatigue with shattering results.
I have the RCBS collet bullet puller , it seems to work well . I can pull bullets without ruining them . my gripe on this puller is it has a "T" handle top that does not clear other dies I have mounted in my T-7 turret press . I think the hornady cam lever top would work better on a turret style press . I also have the hammer style puller . it's ok for a couple . it's to slow to pull apart a bunch .
I'm still using the hammer type and have found a nice block of lead helps to work like a dead blow hammer and pulls the bullet easier. I also have a piece of 8" aluminum billet I use to hammer on. I've always considered a collet puller but have yet to buy one.
I like the cam design of the Hornaday collet bullet puller, the one concern that I have read about with that particular model is the cam seems to break off easily. Have looked at a Sinclair collet bullet puller, will that model work on all RCBS presses?
Keith
I've never had a problem with the Hornady Cam Lock puller, and it has been used a lot. The Forster and RCBS collet style pullers will work equally well, no doubt, but the Cam Lock puller is fast and easy. I'm not familiar with the Sinclair model. Sinclair makes and markets good stuff. My impression, however, is that they are bulkier copies of items already available from others. I have quite a bit of Sinclair items, so I'm not dissing just to diss.
I used a kinetic bullet puller for 30 years. It was always a PITA especially with light bullets in .224".
Recently I bought a set of Grip-N-Pull bullet pullers and wonder why no one ever thought of this simple device sooner. Without a doubt they are the simplest, most effective and convenient puller I've ever used.
I use a RCBS kinetic puller that I've had for years and it has worked well for me. I had to replace the collet and o-ring recently because it wore out and wouldn't hold the cases anymore.
on another forum we were talking about bullet pullers . one guy mentioned that a shellholder can be used , in place of the collet , in the kinetic pullers . I was not aware of this . I tried it in mine and yes it would work .
