upon further checking i wanna keep same grain for varmit and hog hunting ........... ideas on these..... nosler Partition 60gr., ballistic tip varmit 60 gr. : barnes 50 gr. tipped tsx, 50 gr. varmit gernade. ideas my savage axis is slamming about 1 in. at 200 yards with factory loads figure my loads i can get it lil tighter. so main thing is experiance with these seperate bullets i have turret scope so if i have to use 2 different grains no big deal. but would like to keep them the same (preference) spelled that all kinds of wrong LOL. so fellers lay it on me your the guys with the ideas and also thanks again folks for previous info helped TONS. i have everything nailed down just been thinking on this lil to much for my liking.

And your cartridge of choice being.............................?????????

Either way looks like a 22 of some sort. I am not a fan of any 22 on big game. That said if given that limitation I would go with the 60 PT.

yes its .223 we used them in texas for hogs and had no problems shot placement, shot placement.kinda figured be pt being first HP rifle with baby coming limited on being able to get another for hogs. But after texas had alot of fun and freezer was full. i didnt know much about loads and such back then (being all bow hunter). after getting this rifle its fun. will get a .270 or .308 later just for hogs and family trips ( cant wait to teach my daughter to shoot and bow hunt after losing first with wife its building to see her face with first deer :) i thank you all for time and input time to get to ordering and working things up. Thanks to all

Hogs are tough and they can get big. Take a look at a Marlin 1895 in 45-70. Plenty of gun for putting hogs down fast.

The 60 PT will topple hogs when hit well. Hope your newest daughter takes a huge liking to the sport! Good luck buddy.

If she is anything like my girl you're in for a ride!

Hey she was watching tv at the lodge in Texas wearing my crocks.

She will grow into them......

Man, I am coming to sit in Danielle's blind! She had a 100% year on bucks! How good is that?! Man, next year don't be surprised to find someone lurking in your blinds! I promise I will take good care of the blind and won't take more than my share!

Danielle will be goat hunting in 2012 with me. Ha ha !

I hate to be the decenting opinion on this one... ahhhh, no I don't... but I'd shoot the Barnes... You know it's coming out of any sub-250 pound piggy... at about any angle. Then I'd find a correlative load using a cheap bullet of similar BC for practice/vermin.

As long as you don't shoot this guy! I saw him a couple weeks ago, he crossed the road in front of my truck.

Scott -
you are too darn big to be lurking around in someones' blind .

Fotis - your little girl getting her hands bloody like that is great to see! The old man won't have to worry about whether she can take care of herself.

That's perfect! The blind won't be used then. With the amount of deer on Jims trail cam I should be able to get it done while there gone and clean up any evidence of my work!

You guys will have a blast hunting goats. Great way to get young hunters excited.
