Bullets for my new #1

Thanks! It seemed to work well in Wyoming...

BTW, point of aim was at 6:00 in the black - that's a 300 yard zero, at 100 yards.

Seems to need a click or two of right windage. I'll take it as is though. It worked fine for me out to 300 yards on clay pigeons.

If I don't carry the .30-30 Marlin, I'll use this next week while whitetail hunting here in Washington.

And all that from a remington. Where is Scotty? :p

I am shooting a .257 Roberts (long action) and get 3100 from the 110 AccuBond. You should get another 100 fps from this billet in a .25-06.

Oh, I could. And have in load development, but I'm real comfortable with this load. It shoots nice, and is very effective in the field. Those are my reasons for staying with it the way it is.

Also:

I'm at a max powder charge according to Nosler's load manual, but 50 fps short of what they show (3170 fps).

During load development, I have loaded the Partitions, and the B-Tips, up to 60.5 gr Retumbo, which is Hodgdon's max for a 117 gr bullet. That got me roughly 3200 fps from the Partitions - and there must have been some pressure issue with the B-Tips because at the same 60.5 charge, they blew right past that figure up into the 3270's... Which is right up there with .257 Wby mag loads. So, prudently I think, I backed off the powder charge with the Ballistic Tips. I had also used the 60.5 gr load with 115 gr Berger VLD's for several years with excellent results in the field, including a 400 yard mule deer.

I'm happy with the current 57.5 gr load with the 115 B-Tip @ 3120 fps. It worked well in Wyoming. Shoots easy and is obviously accurate. It's also about 100 fps faster than factory .25-06 ammo. Think I'll just stay with it as my standard load. Might push the PT's harder as they showed no problems at the higher charges, and produced good accuracy as well.

Regards, Guy

Fotis,

I think the 115 gr BT would make for a fine long range load at 3200 fps.

That is what Lori is running out of here M70 as well, just using RL25 instead of Retumbo. It is accurate too.
