Calling javelina!

That is crazy. I hunted javelina in Texas, but I never saw anything like that. The one was really intent on finding the critter that was making the noise. Pretty amazing!

Wow! That's something I'd like to hunt someday! He really knows how to suck 'em in.

I've had mama mule deer come running in, ready to kick the tar out of me when I was blowing on a dying rabbit call. One big doe and her two yearlings pulled off only when I stood up when they were maybe 12 feet away.

Had really been hoping for a coyote - but the mule deer was a neat experience afield anyway.

Great video! It would be a real thrill to call the javelina in so close... Dang...

That was cool. They can be aggressive.
My mom grew up in southern AZ and was chased up a tree by a Javelina when she was a young girl.

I once shot a javelina on the spine. It was squealing something awful, several other of the javelina came back out in the sendero and attacked the wounded javelina. They were bitting and tearing at the downed animal. They didn't run off until I downed a second one.

Oh my gosh that looks like it would be fun. Especially with a bow! Sign me up! I also heard that they are really good eating too. Can you imagine doing one whole on a pit BBQ or a smoker? Fresh potato salad, corn on the cob, and a nice strawberry-rhubarb pie for desert warmed with a just a little vanilla ice cream on top?

I keep thinking bow or handgun...

When is the best time of year to hunt javenlina? What's the limit? How hard is it for a non-resident to get the tags?

6mm, I hope your side dishes are good cuz the javelina isn't likely to be very palatable off a barbecue grille. I've tried javelina cooked in about every way a redneck could think up and they always turn out bad. We once split one like you envisioned and cooked it over oak wood sopping it with a cajun spice sop. The cajun spice was good and you had ample opportunity to taste it cuz it took about twenty minutes to chew up a bite.

I have heard the same thing Bruce. Friends said there wasn't much of a good way to cook one. Better off eating your shoes in most cases.
