What should the total length be for the 7mm.Rem.Mag. loaded with 140 grain CT ballistic silvertip bullet and winchester cases?
Thanks,

my opinion would be to get a OAL gauge from someone like stoney point or hornady. The overall length gauge is easy to use and extremly accurate once you get the feel for it . Be sure to use it every time you use a different bullet because the OAL for each type of bullet could be very different. i shoot 7mm mag and my length is way longer than the SAAMI max of 3.29". My length is 3.358" w/160gr AccuBond. you should look at some they make it real easy and accurate.

I don’t use them short 140 grain bullets in my 7 Mag. , except maybe for fire forming cases, and when I do, I seat the base of the bullet at the base of the shoulder or thereabouts.
That way you’re using all of the short 7mm Rem Mags neck, and it’ll probably be off the lands, and work in through the magazine too, BUT you gotta make sure, fer shore. If not, seat'em deeper til they are and do.
Even, if you find a load with that bullet in a loading manual, make sure. Make sure with ANY load, in ANY manual.

Optimum COL is different in every rifle. Seat the bullet under SAAMI listed max to insure it fits your magazine and check to make sure it isn`t jammed in the leade.
I seat a bullet in a new rifle/chamber to just touch the lands to start, or as long as SAAMI std will allow. When I find my max load I drop the COL in 0.005" increments until I find the OAL the rifle likes best with relation of the ogive off the lands. The rifle then will likely like other bullets seated to the same depth off the lands and use that OAL as long as the cartridge will fit my mag. The Stoney Point or Sinclair OAL gages are real handy for this.
