For everyone wondering what you gain in case capacity for the 35 Whelen AI I finally got a small digital scale to weigh my brass and get the H2O capacity so I could tune my loads better.
I only had Nosler once fired fire formed AI brass for comparison to the standard 35 Whelen and Remington once fired brass for the standard so it's not really apples and apples but will give you and Idea of what you gain or loose. Also to note is that you loose OAL case length when you AI a Whelen case and the neck shortens a little when the case and shoulder are formed.
The Remington cases held an avg. of 72.77gn of water while the Nosler 35 AI cases held 76.13gn of water that's a difference of 3.36gn of capacity increase for AI case. (y)
There are other benefits to the AI case than just added capacity which I won't go into. Everyone has an opinion and are entitled to it.

I don't have the original reference, so if you get a much different number in your measurements let me know please.
I believe that table is based on full up to the top of the case neck/mouth, which may not be the best when powder is filled more or less to the beginning of the neck. I've just used this as a relative comparison. Anyway hope this helps you.

Thanks for the reference list . I see were my figures for the 35 Whelen R-P case is with in a 10th of a grain so I must have done something right.

Here's a picture of the scale I bought for $27.95 plus shipping.

Ray, I'll add some of my cases for that list tomorrow. Just writing this tonight so I can find it tomorrow.

ts, Wyo,

I copied that info to a Excel spread sheet some yrs ago. But, for some reason didn't note the source. I've found it useful to me when discussing cartridges and wildcats. Also, when beginning load work-up on a new to me cartridge.

The only one I've encountered that really varied from those numbers was the 8mm Mauser. Its not that that number is wrong - Its probably OK on average. Just that I've seen a wide variation in case capacity from one case manufacturer to another - Even to the point that a safe load in one case brand would be unsafe in another brand!

I saw that from loading a batch of mixed cases. Usually I sort by case brand, but that time I didn't. When had all the powder charged and all these cases on block, I always do a visual fill check before seating the bullets. Those 8x57 cases were all over the place on fill levels. I had weighted each charge. I dumped them and weighted the charges again - Same variation! So I dumped them again and didn't load'em.

I added some of mine that were different and sorted them. Should be able to copy and paste into excel.

Bummer this doesn't look good on tapatalk.

It's probably your .243 wssm. Formatting issue in excel deleted last character of each case. M must have been last character.

That 69.1 is accurate. The brass is thin. I think it measured .011 at the neck. I've averaged 20 cases 3 times and got 69.1.
