Case prep just got a whole lot easier

That is one drawback on the RCBS Trim Mate Center. I also like that you report it is quiet. I will be checking into this.

It does look like a serious piece of gear and with it taking the place of so many other tools, it would free up a bunch of space on my bench. Hopefully Santa is good to me this year! Scotty

Dr Mike -
The cutter on the chamfer bit cut so well (used to having to push hard with my old hand -held one) that I had to back off on how hard I pushed the case on the cutter. All the bullets that were seated in the cases after the prepping, glidded in with no effort on the press handle at all.

Doc -
I have RADD for sure...had to talk myself out of another .243 in a Sako today at Cabela's (really nice Vixen).

Ah, 'tis a fine and pleasant madness. I was just notified that a Remington CDL 260 came in with my name on it. In the interim, I bought a Winchester Model 70 Featherweight in 243 and ordered a Pac-Nor 26 cal pipe for it. Two of the same calibre! 'Tis madness, I say. At least I have a good tool coming for my bench.

Mike, you are my hero! I have been thinking about that tool all day also. I found it in somepreferred shopping places, but I have already committed some funds towards my .257 deficit. I will get that new trimmer later on. It looks too good not to have. Man, I can't believe you have two 260's on their way, if we lived closer I would relieve you of one them! Scotty

Scotty,

Come on over to use the Case Prep Center any time! I'll lend you a rifle any time you're in need. Now I have a 260 for the grandchildren and one for me. Actually, I'm thinking that one may become a 338 Federal. I don't have that cartridge yet.

Well Mike, as I have said before, don't be surprised when my Dodge rolls up into your driveway! Hopefully, if I get the correct paperwork filled out, I won't have to worry about borrowing rifles, but I do appreciate the offer! Again, it is a black Dodge Diesel and looks like this, so don't be alarmed when it is parked outside your house! Scotty

Mike, I won't be much trouble, I wouldn't mind sleeping in your back yard on an isomat with a sleeping bag! You'll hardly notice me! Scotty

Doc -
That is my dream back yard!!! I will be interested in finding out how your CDL .260 shoots for you. Probably the most finicky round I have ever had to play with in the LE model I bought in 2008. Shoots the 130 AB into 1/2 MOA now, but it took some time to get there.

Why are you not shooting the barrel on the .243 for awhile to see how it does?

Scotty -
I have a 4 bedroom house with just me living here, so you can come over and try "the tool" here as well. I know...not as picturesque of a back yard as Doc has :p .

Joel,

I'm jumping in because I want to get a setup that my grandchildren can use for game in this area that will not kick them out from under their hats. I debated the 7mm-08, but opted for the 260 instead. No particular reason why I chose it, I just did. My last foray with a 260 was developing FMJ loads for a fellow heading to Norway to hunt Capercaillie. The load I delivered shot very well indeed.

Doc -
I like both calibers and think either one would be excellant for younger hunters. Both of my boys started with 7mm-08's. Having both calibers in the arsenal now, there really isn't a huge difference in recoil or down-range results that I notice.

Interesting idea on turning one of them into a 338 Federal. That is the one caliber not in the fleet yet for me of calibers based off the 308 cartridge. I have thought about having one made in a carbine (20 inch barrel) for stalking hunts in the thick stuff for deer and moose. Been looking for a cheap short action rifle that could be a donar action to build it from...RADD all over again...darn you :p .

I certainly like the 7mm-08, but the 260 is just a tich' gentler for a young shooter. I haven't felt strongly compelled to pick up a 7-08 because I have a 280, a 7 WSM and a 7 RM. I might consider a 7 X 57 if the right one were to appear. Since Federal brass is available for the 338 Federal, that may have some interest. I'll weigh the possibility as I mull over the situation today.
