I would like to recut the checkering on an older BDL stock with pressed checkering and when I look at a Brownells or Midway catalog, I have no clue as to which cutter to buy to do this.

I sent you a PM message on the checkering. I gave you a name of someone who could tell you if it can be done or not and give you good advice, or could just flat out do it for you.
The teacher that I had in my high school shop class taught me how to do checkering and let me tell you it can take some practice before you get proficient at it. If I remember correctly, it takes many specialized sized files used in a certain order.
The rifle was a rem 30-06 and I now can't believe that I actually brought that scoped rifle to school  I can remember walking down the hallway with it slung over my shoulder and people/teachers could care less.
Here is a short youtube clip that gives a demonstration of how it is done.
Yeah - I remember Fridays we all loaded up to go camp for the weekend during deer season. All I knew at the time was, the Assistant Principal told me, "I don't want to see it, or hear about anybody else seeing it, during school hours. And good luck hunting!"
I'm not sure what's happened to kids, but here in our little corner of the world (Madison, AL) a young man lost his life when another 9th grader decided to shoot him in the head over some sort of running disagreement. Who taught these kids that's how you settle things? How did they get to be 14 and not understand the boundaries we all had growing up? Hell, I remember being at a friend's house, popping crows and starlings with bb guns to keep them out of his mom's garden, and we tossed one of our friends off the property because he wasn't safe with the muzzle. We ended up talking about that off and on for years afterwards. I can still hear Brian saying, "Man, I'm just not going to put up with that kind of horse----. That's dangerous." And kids today will take a handgun to school and shoot someone over something as stupid as who he's dating, or that he stepped on my shoes in a crowded hallway. Sometimes I think it's because there's no real punishment anymore. All I can say is my son better hope like hell the cops get to him before I do if he ever does something like that...
