Any homemade cleaners out there, besides Ed's red? I have a hand lapped stainless barrel. I read that engine carbon cleaner
is ok for factory barrels, but not my barrel. Any suggestions?

I've always used GM Top Engine Cleaner mixed with alittle Kroil. Here an article http://www.6mmbr.com/borecleaning.html. I started using it back when I got into BR and I still have one can of the old stuff (11oz) plus acouple cans newer ones (15oz). I've never had a problem with it on my custom barrels and for copper I use Sweet's.

One thing I get picky about is cleaning as I have a set of rods for each caliber I like the bore-tech rods with a brush and use dewey with a patch and I use the doble rod holders from Sinclair.

I find with the good barrel I don't get alot of carbon or copper. I also like to wear a barrel out from shooting not cleaning.

...................................This same subject of carbon removal is covered on another thread that was started by "Bullet" posted in the above "Reloading" section

After about a 45 minute phone conversation with Mr Deaton yesterday, I ordered a 4 oz bottle of his stuff. According to him, you can use his stuff for any barrel type inside or out and will not harm any barrel, blued or otherwise. A 4 oz bottle is $10.95 + 4.95 to ship which should last quite a while. Sells a 2 oz bottle too.

It`ll be interesting to see how well his stuff works and how much more I`ll be able to remove from my already perceived,,,,extremely clean barrels.

Looking forward to hearing about it. I have been trying out Gunzilla and Copperzilla. Both of them are natural based, non petroleum type products and they work well, don't smell horrible and are probably better health wise than the really stinky copper cleaners. It is made up in Michigan, and pretty good stuff. Works well for muzzloaders also, since it is non petroleum. Scotty

Man, you aren't kidding. I "thought" it worked really well on powder and other residue and smells fairly pleasant to the sniffer. I am out of Copperzilla, but man, it took copper out easy. I mean, just as easy or easier than CR10 or Montana Xtreme Copper killer, without the smell. Either way, I have a big bottle of it, and I guess Hoppes' 9 really works pretty well for the most part on about anything anyhow, except for copper. Scotty
