Consistent seating depth, regardless of bullet type...

I found this comment laying around:

"According to Fred Sinclair's Precision Reloading Manual each rifle has a
distance from the bullet to the rifling that it prefers, regardless of
bullet type."

I attempted to purchase the book, and no dice. Cheapest is $815 used at Amazon!

Anyone find this to be true?

I ask because I believe I have seating depth for 180 PTs figured out in my 30-06: 2.613 inches CBTO. As I approach that depth in testing with 180 ABs, my groups appear to be tightening up. However, the samples aren't statistically significant, just anecdotal evidence in support of the above.

Just wondered what you guys have observed.

I have found that statement to be very true but you will also find that most rifles will have more than one sweet spot. And you need to measure each type of bullet. You cannot use the same measurement for all the bullet types. rick.

I have to agree with Rick. Each bullet type will have to be seated
to specific ogive measurement based on the distance to the lands.
Unfortunately most of us are restricted by mag length for hunting. I
would choose a bullet for what performance I need then have the
pleasure of working the load & length to were I am happy. Save your
money on the book I think you have already figured it out. Skid

I also have found this to be the case. ATB

Yes, I have a tendency to put the ogive in one spot that works well for several bullets and not touch it. However, I also have enough rifles to not use more than one bullet in each, normally.
