I figure I should be able to get 2300 fps out of the 23 inch barrel using the 165 gr. Ballistic Tips. Just how far can I expect good expansion from this bullet. I doubt that I will ever get a shot as far as 200 yards using this bullet and cartridge combination but it is nice to know your limitations.

Minimum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 1600 fps
Maximum Impact Velocity for Reliable Expansion- 3000 fps
Based on a MV of 2300 fps, you will get expansion out to 400 yds, where your velocity will be approx. 1663 fps.
Keep in mind the drop-
With a 100 yd zero, you will be -6.1" @ 200 yds, 21.2" @ 300 yds, and 47.4" @ 400 yds.
In the real world of hunting, you have about a 225-250 yd round.

Outstanding, thanks. In the last 5 years I haven't shot at a deer or feral hog farther than 125 yards. I can sight in 2 inches high at 100 yards and be 2 inches or so low at 200. Thanks again for the welcome. I have looked into a lot of posts here before posting and it seems the trols and radicals are absent and I sure like that.
