Coyote #39 down.

Good luck tomorrow. It would be great to see you drop 50 for the year!

mcseal2,

Good luck tomorrow buddy. I hope you get #50.

Here is the song dog I shot back in early Nov with my 6.5mm Rem Mag and a 130 gr AB at about 50 yds.

50 yotes....! you the man! If I can ask what part of the country ya from? Curious as to hunting style and calling set up. A hand called in song dog is on my bucket list. CL

Didn't get #50. I tried hard, but it just didn't happen. We were in a wind advisory today with sustained winds over 35mph, plus we had near record highs in the 60's, not ideal calling weather.
To top it off, I started coming down with a cold last night and had to keep coughing into my coat sleeve while calling. I'm pretty sure any yotes that could see me were laughing. It's ok, I had my chances and still had my best year ever. It makes my record that much easier to beat next time!

I live in KS. As far as my calling sets, it's nothing fancy and I'm still learning. I like to set up above the area I'm calling if the terrain allows. Elevation gets me visibility in the tall grass. Then I set up so that I'm concealed as well as possible by brush or tall grass and have a decent view of anything that charges straight in, and a great view of anything that circles downwind. I stay as still as possible, angling my body so that I don't have to move my head side to side to see what I need to see. I also try to set myself up so all shots will come from straight in front or to my left when possible so I can adjust for a shot with minimal movement. I use the Stoney point rapid pivot bipod on the front of my rifle, and keep it shouldered the whole time I'm calling. I rest my left hand with the call in it on the butt of the gun so there is very little movement getting the call to my mouth. I like all the Verminator's calls, and the Catnip call really well. I start out quiet and work up to a louder call. I howl also at times, but not if I think a bobcat may be in the area. My hunting partner and I just ordered an Alpha-dog electronic call but haven't used it yet. I like my mouth calls, but hunting alone it's hard to fool the yotes when the sound is coming right from you and they can lock in on you. I think the electronic call & my decoy will be more effective hunting alone, especially on cats. I have a woodpecker decoy that flaps it's wings and runs off AAA batteries. I like it because it has a clip and can be hooked to fences or branches to get it up higher than the grass. I also wear a Natural gear leafy coat with hood, and gloves and a facemask to further break up my outline.

Next years count starts tomorrow!

Good looking yote. The AB's from the 6.5's do a great job of dropping them and don't damage the hide to much. I almost took my 264 out today with the wind, but decided I'd be calling low ground close to the timber anyway so shots would be close enough it wouldn't matter.

Forty-nine is a very fine tally of coyotes for the year! You've done well, that's for sure.

Great work buddy! That was some good hunting you did! Congrats on those coyotes. You saved alot of calfs and fawns in your part of the state!

What a great year!!!! I am thinking you have the technique pretty much ironed out. I have sure that you are having a positive impact on the medium sized game in your area, good luck in 2012!!!!

Congratulations on 49 song dogs, one heck of a year! You killed more coyotes in 2011 than I will ever kill in MI!

I have a FoxPro 416 with a remote and have had success with it. I have killed kore coyotes with a hand call that has a bullet reed in it. It is getting old and the sound isn't what it used to be so I just bought a couple open reed calls from Crit'R-Calls, www.critrcall.com
The PeeWee and the Song Dog calls. They are easy to master and sound great. I can't wait to start calling them in.

Good luck to you in 2012, I hope you can hit the 50+ mark.
