Custom model 70

Bumping an old thread cause I now am about to place the order with Hart. I looked at their pricing and I think using them for all the work is going to be a little bit cheaper than having my local gunsmith do the work.

Anybody use Hart to rebarrel your action? Were you happy? Did you have to put down deposit or pay all up front?

Second question is I want to know exactly what to tell them so I get exactly what I want. Here is what I got so far. Let me know if there is something I am forgetting.

New barrel chambered in 6.5x55, winchester featherweight contour dimensions +.30, 1 in 8 twist, with a finish length of 23", I want the lugs, action, threads, bolt face and crown all trued, bead blast finish to match action.

I also read you have to specify the chamber, this is a hunting gun and I don't want to have to turn necks so I don't want a super tight chamber. I also would like to have it stretched out to where I can seat the 140's to the base of the neck rather than seating into powder space. Can anyone tell me how to draw that up for them and any advice on what that dimension might need to be. I also don't want it to shoot factory ammo too poorly either if there is too much jump. Can someone shed some light on the pros and cons here.

The only problem seems to be caliber but I am beginning to think no matter what I pick I will still want another in something else and this will become a first of many. So all the endless looking at charts is probably in vain. Main reason I am coming down with the 6.5x55 is I would like for my daughter to be able to shoot it and if my kids don't reload they could still by factory ammo. I loved my 260 and figured couldn't go wrong with its daddy and it has just enough cool factor.

Thanks for the help got to get this order in so just maybe have it back by hunting season next year.
