Wow, you guys have some incredible looking rifles. I have nothing that could be called custom. DF your rifles looks excellent buddy!

HC, that 270 Win looks all business. Man, talk about giving a guy a jealous streak! Very nice pictures guys.

I second that, some unbelievably nice rigs that all look like they can shoot!

I will gladly take care of you Dan!

Dan,

That Whelen will be finished about the time my Brenneke is finished. Don't get in a hurry.

Wish I had some beautiful wood-stocked full blown custom to show off... but... nope!

Sometimes referred to as "sporterized" this Model of 1917 .30-06 that my son is shooting here, in preparation for our bear hunt, has been much transformed from it's WWI version:

003-4.jpg

Sights milled off the action, converted to cock on opening, Timney trigger, barrel bobbed to 21" and re-crowned, drilled & tapped for scope mounts, then set up with Weaver mounts and the 6x Leupold which has a 1.9 MOA "Leupold Dot" in tapered crosshairs. I set it in the Bell & Carlson stock, retaining the original six-round magazine. Also still have the walnut stock Dad made for it in the late 1940's or early 1950's - and am re-shaping it to better fit me, and work better with a scope. It's a great old rifle! Might eventually have to replace the barrel, she's a mite worn after all the shooting done by four generations of us now...

It works GREAT, and my son has put it to good use the past couple of years:

Great pictures Guy. That rifle seems to be a Golden Child in your safe. Hard to argue with the performance you eek out of it... Can't wait to see what the 220 PT's do!

Thanks Scotty. I remember Dad turning me loose with that thing when I was only 10 years old. Had to rest it because there was no way I could hold it in standing position. Back then it had the heavy walnut stock, a full 26" barrel and sights, no scope. Also had the original two-stage military trigger and the cock-on-closing bolt. I hit it off with that rifle 40 years ago and still enjoy shooting it.

Yeah - the 220's will be interesting - like going down memory lane. Dad used to hunt with 220 gr Winchester Silvertip .30-06 ammo.

Rommel,

I'm worried about what looks like blood on the pool deck. I thought maybe your guard dog dropped a coyote there.

Lol, those are flowers from my neighbor's bougainvillea DrMike. I used to have a female Husky that kills possums that wandered into my yard. Funny it always happened when I'm out hunting. I come home and had to get rid of bloated possum, since my wife would not dare touch a dead animal.

My "Green Machine" .308 Win, Rem 700 short action. 24" 1-12 twist Krieger barrel, trued action, Rem trigger adjusted to 3#, bedded in the McMillan stock, with a fore-end rail & handstop for NRA Highpower prone competition. Badger Ord scope base and rings. Sorry, my friend Glen Seekins wasn't making bases and rings when I put this together long ago or I'd have used his stuff. Relatively simple 1" tube 4.5-14x Leupold. I've been using this same rifle for multiple duties for about 17 years now.

Varmint shooting
Deer & bear hunting
NRA Highpower prone matches
Tactical-Practical competitions
SWAT duty rifle

Poor little bucky showed up in the snow when I was more interested in filling the freezer than in putting antlers on the wall last November:

Doggone thing is still pretty good. These days I'm interested in paring some weight from it, so the old HS Precision stock might see use again (I hunted with that lighter stock on it last fall), the next barrel might be fluted, and the heavy steel Badger Ord base and rings will likely be replaced by an aluminum setup. It's been a real good rifle and has done very well for me afield and at the range.

The bolt is not fluted, just the barrel. Weight is 9 lbs even.

Jeez Jim; that rifle shoots everything well. I guess the nut behind the bolt probably had something to do with it as well. :)
