CVA Cascade XT 35 Whelen

A top end barrel from PAC Nor is a little over 400 bucks. Send them your rifle and they’ll instal the barrel for another 300. It will be a far better barrel than drilling a big hole in a bad barrel in my opinion. I’m looking for good wood, a 1A configuration all the better if its based on any cartridge with 473 case head, then I don’t have to change the ejector.
I’ve seen a few of the SS #1s in 35 Whelen that are really calling to me.

Everyone I hunt with tells me the same thing about using a 35 whelen on my aoudad hunt when I have perfectly good 7 prc. It has a 24” 1 in 14” twist barrel and I plan on using the 225g AccuBond or 250g Partition (whichever the gun likes better). I’ve also ordered the 200g TTSX’s to try out. Should be able to put some thump on it.
I don't see why any of those bullets wouldn't work. Currently my main .35 Whelen is a custom on a 98 Mauser action. It has a 1 in 14" twist barrel 24" long. I just happened to try the 225 gr. TSX bullets early on and have never gone to anything else. The count is something like five shots and five dead elk. I consider that rifle/ammo package to be my lucky elk rifle.
FWIW, the load is 60.4 gr. RL15, WLT standard primer and RP brass. Accuracy is superb.

CAUTION: This load is well above max in most manuals and one should work up slowly. Velocity is 2710 FPS from my rifle. (the Mauser) It has proven to be too warm for my Ruger M77RS and Remington Classic.
