Had the girls down to Pendleton for a St. Patrick's day bird hunt. They did fine, the shooters did ok and the weather sucked in the morning.
We got home about 2100, and then I found them, Ticks. I had ticks on my cloths, the girls had a few and there were ticks in their crates.
I hate ticks.

Sounds like a great time......except for the ticks.
Its something I do not look forward too each spring.
Are they wood ticks?

I'm certainly not an entomologist, I guess they're not wood ticks. If I recall correctly the area is described as either high desert plateau or the Columbia plateau. With only 10 inches of rain a year it will grow grass and not much else. We always seem to encounter them hunting in the grass this time of year.

Bad time of year for ticks, for sure.

A little warmer, and it's the snakes...

I really really hate rattle snakes, dang dogs pointed a couple last fall. Learned if you shoot the snake, before you have the dog by the collar, she'll retrieve it. Dead or not. Every body else thought it funny, Damn dog chasing me around trying to deliver a shot to ribbons but not quite dead snake. Thankfully none but the snake suffered. Rattle snake avoidance training on the agenda.

That would have been a heckuva scene. Yeah, don't think I'd be terribly appreciative of such a retrieve.
