That time of year again, my youngest boy recently passed his hunter safety and was chomping at the bit. Due to class timing he wasn't eligible for the draw this year but dad managed to find him a left over java tag, he's been raring to go since september. Spent the fall practicing with great grand dads 300 savage and asking more questions about javalinas than dad had answers to. Finally the day arrived and we headed south with a cooler full of hot dogs and root brews. Found some javas opening morning but couldn't get a shot, border patrol chopper picked the worst possible time to investigate us and the javas gave us the slip amidst the dust and racket. Found an old loner boar busily excavating a mesquite flat that evening, and after a heart pounding stalk/chase Eric punched his first big game tag with a 100 yard poke.

300 Savage 130 grain hornady. Not sure which one of us was more excited, really is a blessing to be able to share wild places with the young guys . Dad managed to fill his bow tag while we were at it.

Darn kid got a bigger java than I did  Hope it's the first of many buddy!!

Congrats to the both of you. Great hunt. How do they taste? What do they taste like? Not like chicken, I hope.

Congratulations to Eric and to you. He tagged a fine looking boar. Dad didn't do badly either. That sounds like a great hunt.

Tobey, AWESOME hunt and shot on your boy's part! That is awesome.

That rifle looks very awesome as well, is that a M70 300 Savage? My heart almost stopped when I saw the picture of your son's smile with such an awesome accomplishment and taking it with an equally impressive rifle! Way to go!

Seems like your boy is hooked pretty deep now!

Good job, that boy of your took a fine trophy and Dad's is not shabby  . I hope that is the first of many father & son trips.
Photos and story were great thank you for sharing.

Blessings,
Dan

Great pics and great story! Always good to see kids picking up the tradition. My son is not interested right now, but I'm hoping he will become so in the future.
