Dedicated lightweight rifle?

The TGR is a great all around rifle

I had this 7mm-08 built on a Sako AII action in 1993. Shilen air-gauged #1 contour barrel, Brown Kevlar stock, Swaro 3-9X36 scope on Control rings and bases. Total weight with scope is 6 3/4 lbs. Shoots the 140 grain BT's or 140 Swift A-frames .5 moa. Love this rifle for anything that involoves climbing hills

Bk,
I want a Remington TI real bad. That is the ultimate lightweight rifle in my book. Thanks Brian

Now if a guy were to re-stock a FW in 6.5X55 in a Micky edge that would be the ultimate lightweight rifle.

I only have one light rifle the 527 CZ, .204 Ruger. I guess that the old Pre 64, Featherwieght .30-06's qualify? My Sako .338 Federal only weigh about less than 7-1/2 pounds with a scope. For me, that is a light rifle. Most of my rifles weigh 8-9 pounds fully loaded with heavy scope.

I have had a couple or three Mountain rifles in medium claibers (.280 to .308) and they kicked worse than my .338 Winchester.

No, but I'd love to have one of these someday in a 270wsm... If I ever draw a sheep tag it'll be the perfect excuse to get one!

I handled one of the 4.5 pounders at a Sportsman's Show. Might be too much of a good thing. Kimber got it just about right, I think. An 84M in .338 Federal might have gone too far as light weight goes.

Ya, I don't think I'd go with the super light one. But it is pretty amazing how light he can make a rifle that still shoots!

My buddy who owns Alaska Custom firearms has a Reminton model 7 in 338 federal that comes in under 5lbs scoped and with the sling. Weighs right at 4lbs 15oz all up. I'm building a model 700 in 280 ackly that I hope to finish out at under 6lbs with scope.

even my big rifle wieghs in under 8 pounds!

My two main hunting rifles. Top a remington 700 in 375 RUM, 7lb 10oz, and bottom remington 700 in 300 RUM, 7lb 11oz.

Both have High tech specialties stocks, the bottom rifle took quite a bit of metal work to get that light with that heavy scope on top. These rifles are pretty close to twins.

I hunt with Trophy Grade 180 ABs.

I've messed around with 150ABs and BTs but never got them to shoot quite as good as the 180 stuff. Mine also shoots Federal Blue Box 180s about as well and to the same POA as the Trophy Grade.

Looks like you had some success with that rifle on the Denali Hwy. Tangle lakes area? I spent about 15 days up there hunting this year again looking for a good bull caribou and a bear. Saw lots of caribou and moose but not one grizzly.

Yeah, I hunt Tangles and Swede Lk to Dickey Lk pretty regularly. My party managed several caribou this year- all meat critters except one really nice bull a buddy took early in the season.

We did see a couple of bears including a real honker on the mountainside west of Little Swede Lk- we just watched him for a couple of hours, too far and too dark to go after him.

I guess my light rifle is my CDL in the 270win & a VX-6 on top. I am not sure what she weighs but I would think right around the 8lb mark.
My 35 Whelen made by RMR would weigh about 81/2lbs with the Leica on top that is not real heavy but remember I am a flatlander
I watched my one lab leave home for 2 days
Now my cousin just picked up a T3 in a 270WSM and has a 4200 elite on top it is definitely lighter than my CDL. He has it shooting .5 with 130ABs. using RL-22.

Blessings,
Dan

My lightweight was going to be my Kimber 84M Classic, but that rifle was a turd. I guess I just don't have a lightweight rifle that will do it all. All the more reason to try and stay in some kind of shape...but it's hard to forget the old rationalization: round IS a shape!
